We have a 2017 Classic 30 Twin delivered in September 2016. I had a flat on the passenger rear wheel. And, indeed mine had the fake cover over the lug nut and one out of six split during the wheel removal and reinstallation after repair. I am not sure that I understand why Airstream would use these cheapy lug nuts on a unit with a MSRP of $139,000! I recently visited JC and purchased the solid lug nuts. I would strongly suggest that anyone with this unit change to the solid lug nuts before you have a problem on the road. Best wishes. Ray

I took heed to your advice and ordered the McGard chrome lug nuts. 9 of the factory nuts with chrome caps came off with ease. 2 gave me some trouble and I had to hammer the socket onto the cap for it to get enough bite to finally unscrew.

The last simply would not come off. After 2 days I gave up and called AAA who sent out a tow operator who couldn't get it off and ended up scratching my Sendel wheels in the process. He clearly didn't know what he was doing as he was trying to use a crescent wrench.

I ordered a 3/4" lug nut remover socket from Performance Tool which was worthless. It had a reverse spiral design rather than the rounded edge type.

I stopped by my local tire shop and luckily they knew exactly what to do. They had a Snap On brand lug nut remover set with the rounded edge design and was able to remove my last stripped lug nut. I'm glad I was able to get this done before hitting the road!

I changed ours shortly after MoJo posted. Glad we did with the brake issues I'm sure I'd have had problems as i've had wheels off at least four times now and on Thursday they all come off again and manual adjusting brakes go on.

So, I'm getting ready to order the McGards before we head south and am confused on which ones to order, the #64010 or the #64000. I take both will work, Airstream is putting the 64000's on the new units, but the 64010 take the same size socket as the old chrome capped disasters. I'm running the 16" Sendal wheels if that makes a difference. Any additional clarifications appreciated since I don't want to order the wrong ones. Thanks!

You want the 64010. They are just a touch taller and the stud will not bottom out in that nut. You don't want a shorty. I think I saw you could get by with the 64000, but 64010 have delivered excellent service.
I'm trying to keep all mine uniform with the 64010. I saw that the price increased a bit, last time I bought a pack of four. The people that make them have to live to. Made in USA,

So, from this I take it that AS is putting solid nuts on the trailers being produced now. My 30' Classic is coming 12/4 and I want to have new nuts available if I need to when I install my Centramatics .

Albeit a late arrival to this post, much thanks. I just had to pull a flat tire and discovered my 2016 Airstream has the lugs with the chrome covers. It was a royal B to get the lugs off. I'm having my tires replaced (at 5 years now) and plan to switch out the lugs.
