Scott & Liz have you done the upgrade yet? Makes a 2017 Classic into an almost perfect trailer.

Had our 2018 Classic 33 Twin upgraded to Alde 3020 System this year. Alde no longer interfaced with Firefly system, both systems now operate well without incident. Our local AS Service Center with Alde US tech assist accomplished the upgrade. I accomplished Firefly Aircon Module update after 3020 upgrade, Firefly provided all necessary material for easy update. Highly recommend speaking to Firefly technical folks during installation, the written instructions provided were incorrect. The folks at Alde US, Vancouver, WA are very helpful, point of contact is Spencer.

Our Saga

We picked up our new-to-us 2017 Classic 30 driving 1000 miles to complete the transaction. We were assured the unit was in great condition, all systems had been checked and we were good to go. Not so - as we learned on the way back to home.

So here we were with cold showers, no heat, broken water pump, lack of storage for full timing, overheads that opened during travel. We were wondering if this was all a big mistake. But, we had sold our house sold everything in it in an estate sale.

We spent the first week being grumpy, moody, discouraged. Then we shifted into problem solving mode...and now it all seems to be working out as our new home. We named it Liberation - "Libby" for short.

A few of our fixes: Our favorite cabinet man, Richard, built us a piece to stand behind the dinette booth. It's 16 inches deep and 37 inches wide and stores a whole lot of stuff. And it matches the cabinets. We lowered the bar in the closet 6 inches and added a deep shelf. Tons of rescued space. We put a wood end on the bed frame so the mattress has stopping shifting all over the place. Also put small stops between the nightstand and mattress. A long storage bin fits perfectly and can't fall while traveling because of the raised wood end. Good for glasses, chargers, etc.

Best of all...the upgrade to Alde 3020. It didn't make us happy but after 5 weeks with zero hot water and very little heat, reading the entire Much Ado About Alde
thread, speaking with Spencer, Airstream, the dealership, we felt there was no other option.

Thanks to Mandy at Alde who hooked us up with the Airstream dealer in Amarillo, Daryn who had never done this upgrade but studied a "19" in the showroom and worked under Spencer's guidance, it was completed. Alde provided us with discounts amounting to about 50% on the parts. We are loving our long hot showers these days. We are still learning the system, but we are liking it more every day.

One lasting disappointment: We called Airstream in Jackson Center and were told they would do nothing to assist us. They selected and installed the system and didn't stand it behind it at all.

We are getting more pleased each day with our new status as full timers.

After going through all the Firefly issues talking to the Alde and the Airstream wiring issues with the Firefly we have had NO problems at all with hot water or heat with our Alde 3010/flow system. The only reason I would consider an upgrade is the altitude issues with the 3010 unit. Basically anything over 1,000 meters you might have a problem and that is concerning.

Have no idea. IOHO from our experience, go to ALDE. They will get it right the 1st time and it will not break the bank. The West coast has many eye opening sites.

Safe travels, best regards.

Do all 2019’s Classic 30’s have the 3020? I just purchased one as a replacement and thought I asked that question, but I was reading some specs on the website and saw it had 3010 on it. I don’t know if the website is wrong or if there was a cutoff date and I have bought an old one off the lot?

Having gone from a Alde 3010 on our 2018 to the Alde 3020 in the 2019, I am wondering about your experience with propane use after upgrading. I am getting great hot water and as much as I need/want, but it is still chilly enough in the Northeast to use propane to achieve the hottest water. I did this routinely with my 2018 as well. But the difference is I have almost used a half tank of propane in about a month just using the trailer weekends since April. We only had to fill our two tanks once in about 1 1/2 summers of camping. Now I am willing to pay a little extra money to have hot showers, but I am just wondering if that is normal experience that the 3020 uses more propane.

No reason to think so. I have no smell of propane. This 3020 is produces much more, hotter water and I thought it might be at the increased expense of propane. But only people who have had both the 3010 and 3020 would know.

Spencer not working. Alde American shut down and now it’s truma or something like that out of Indiana. I posted the number on the other Alde thread. Very fast service and good trouble shooting support.

I was able to diagnose board was bad, order a new one, and install within 24 hours when I was in MI.

Good morning, I just confirmed by calling the 360 597 3017 number that ALDE has consolidated all operations in Indiana and Florida. The Indiana location will do the 3020 conversion with a 2 week notice. They also will sell replacement parts

$3700 all in. Are you upgrading just to upgrade or is something else going on?

We are converting to the 3020 plus flow now at the Alde/Truma facility in Elkhart. The cost is $5200 including flow. Nice facility professional people, I will advise the outcome. 6-7 hour installation
