First Alde 3010 boiler to Alde 3020 boiler and Alde flow upgrade

Well after a year and a half of reviewing "Much Ado About Alde", talking with Airstream, Alde US, tinkering, tweaking and still having 6 to 8 minutes showers when the outside temperatures above 45 degrees (Less when the outside temperatures is below that) including turning off the showerhead between scrubbing and rinsing and altitude issues my wife and I had enough.

So we bit the bullet and during the 2018 WBCCI Salem Rally took our 2017 Airstream Classic to Alde USA in Vancouver, WA for an Alde system upgrade. Well since this was the first Alde 3010 boiler to Alde 3020 boiler and Alde Flow upgrade it to took Spencer at Alde 2 days complete. The new system fits in the same space/place as the original unit and includes a new 3020 Digital display.

Well, talk about a 180…. We now take 10 to 15 minute showers each without turning off the showerhead, back to back, one after the other. And the real surprise is when both of us have showered the water temperature is higher (165) than when we started (151). The Alde 3020 boiler also fixes the altitude issue and it includes a boiler sanitize function. Should have done it sooner

I knew there was a good reason I am buying a 2019 30' Classic! It should have the 3020 system.

Since the original unit never worked as advertised, I assume they gave you the upgrade for free?

That would have been great, but no we paid for the upgrade.

Hi

Since the upgrade is from Alde and the warranty is from Airstream .... forget about any "I get it for free" stuff ....

AndyT, you already have the upgraded system. The Alde 3010 was only in the 2017, I believe.
I’m glad the new 3020 with Alde flow is available to those who weren’t able to get the 3010 to work to their satisfaction. My 3010 produces a min of 12 minuets of hot water, in warmer weather I can get 17 minuets before the temperature starts to drop but like I said, I’m glad to know that the system can be upgraded.

The 2018 mid-year ALDE design change adds confusion to the issue. My 2018 Classic, built in early December 2017, has the 3010 plus ALDE Flow. Later 2018s have, I am pretty sure, the 3020 plus ALDE Flow. I have not been able to discover the exact differences between the 3010 and 3020.

Hi

The simple answer is that the 3020 is specifically designed to work with the Alde control system to do what they are doing in the 2018's ( and 2019's). The 3010 was "going to be adapted to work". That plan apparently did not go so well. Was the problem cost or inventory or Alde ramping up or was it all the issues people seem to have had. A lot of the reported issues are tangled with the Firefly integration (which went away in 2019). Obviously they started with the 3010 for some reason ....

Ditto our mid-November 2017 build 2018 Classic.

I heard the same thing “it was not possible”. It is definitely possible, the upgrade includes a 2year warranty to the upgraded parts. The additional functions compared to the 3010 include "unlimited hot water" that will not go below 104. Checkout the Alde 3020 manual for all the differences compared to the 3010 which are to many to include here.

https://www.alde.us

The for more information on the upgrade contact Spencer at Alde US at (360) 597-3017‬.

NOTE: This upgrade is only for 2017 Classic models.

Hi

Basic details about the conversion probably should include what gets done to the trailer as well as cost. If you loose the dinette in the process ... that's worth knowing

Basic 3010 to 3020 Alde Flow Details

The Alde upgrade in a nut shell consisted of the removal of the dinette seat to allow access to the 3010 Boiler. Removal of the Alde 3010, 3010 Digital panel and wiring. Adding a drain/safety valve and piping for the Alde flow, installation of the Alde 3020, Alde Flow, associated piping, purging the air in the system installing the 3020 digital pane and wiring, testing and finally reinstalling the dinette seat. There is no change in any function of the dinette table or anything else except unlimited hot water. Our Airstream is now almost perfect.

As far as cost which is very reasonable, contact Alde.

See top view of Alde 3020 Boiler and Alde Flow upgrade. Dinette seat removed.

Hi

To bad you can't use the existing wiring to the control panel. That probably would save pulling the fridge ....

They didn’t need to pull the fridge, they used a special tool to thread the wire. The only thing they removed was the dinette bench.

My Sept. build 2018 has the 3010/Ade Flow combination. It looks very much like the picture of your new install. Once the dealer worked their magic it provides us with plenty of hot water. Because our Alde panel is under the sink we rely on the FireFly panel to operate the Alde.
