Cleaning Day/Night Shade and window box

My 2017 Classic is closing in on 3 years (wow! That went by fast) and the day/night shades and the box surrounding them are in need of some serious cleaning. I hate to admit it but they are really dirty and I don’t have a clue how to clean them or that faux suede stuff without doing any damage. Any suggestions?

Hi

Spray paint it black and the dirt will be less noticeable

I was told when we purchased it that soapy water and spot cleaning is all the faux suede stuff needs. Not sure about the shades, sorry.

I have spot cleaned the shades and that’s when I noticed they needed more attention. The spot was clean but everything around it is a different color. I did not consider spray paint but that has given me an idea, spray bottle of soapy water might work on the shades. I wonder if suede cleaner and a soft brush would work?.

I tried cleaning my shades once, and then had to replace them because the results looked so bad.

I vacuum mine, and call it good.

I cleaned greasy handprints off the faux suede around the windows. It seems to be like ultraleather and very durable.

No idea about the shades though.

Naker , What did you use to clean the faux suede?

I’ve been re-reading some of posts from previous threads and calling in a professional service like Stanley Streamer or Zerorez might an option. I haven’t done anything but vacuum so far.

Hi

The "leather" is a plastic, just like the covering on the sofa and seating. Soap and water aren't going to to do much to it. I would not try anything more harsh than 409 on the leather (and would only go there in a pinch).

The shades are .... errr .... ummm .... paper. They may have enough plastic in them to repel water. I've never run that test ... yet.

A few ideas:

http://www.zarcor.com/rv_products/oc...lshade_faq.php

As you search around - the shade on the "kitchen window" in a classic is a very different beast that the accordion stuff on the other windows. I suspect the one in the kitchen would be as indestructible as the "leather".

The only thing that has worked for me on cushion material is those antiseptic wipes you find in the big tubes. I guess the fabric curtains require drycleaning - would love to replace them with some multicolored alternative that hid the dirt one more year. The pull shades...ah, will replace them when intolerable.

I used a gentle automotive interior cleaner on the 'suede'. It seems like it is indestructible.

Naker, thanks. I’ll give it a shot. Anything would be better.
If all else fails I might remove the fake suede box and put in some custom rollers shades which would work for everything except for the rounded end windows. I know I don’t want curtains but Hunter Douglas has some very nice shades that would look amazing if I can just how to install them without putting a bunch of new holes in the skin.

If I ever have to replace mine, I'm going to use the solid wood Venetian style blinds that I had on my last trailer (Tommy Bahama). They were great and practical.

Some time back someone posted pictures of aluminum Venetian blinds, they looked great, took up less room and made the interior feel more open.
