50 amp 90 degree adapter

My 50 amp power cable sticks straight out from the side of the Airstream. I am a bit concerned about the stress of that heavy cable on the connector.

Anyone using a 90 degree adapter cable to bring the power cable down the side of the Airstream?

Saw a couple on Amazon but several individuals indicated that once they plug the 90 degree adapter into their trailer, twist to lock, it is anything but pointing down towards the ground.

If you are using the cable that comes with the Airstream, consider buying a new one at Etrailer.com. They have several that will coil into a 1' diameter coil and come with a 90 degree end. They are about $165 but much easier to use.

Yes. After my first trip, I ditched the awful OEM cable and got this.

I too was concerned about the stress the heavy 50 amp cord was putting on the side wall of the trailer and the connector itself. Looking on the inside where the connector penetrates the skin I was not overly impressed with the amount of support provided. Lifting the factory cord to take the weight off the connector you could actually see the exterior skin flex.
So I added some plywood backing on the inside and also purchased the Marinco 90 degree 50 amp adapter off Amazon. I chose the Marinco unit after reading the reviews on "the other model" and seeing the same comments about the adapter not hanging straight down.
I am very pleased with this Marinco product as I have been with previous products of theirs I have purchased for boating. Very good quality and it hangs straight down once twisted on.
To do it over again I'd buy the 25 foot cord from etrailer. It's just a little over twice the cost of the Marinco adapter and their cord coils much easier and into a smaller coil. What to do with the factory cord? Either leave it in place if you have your trailer plugged in at home. Or replace the female end and turn it into a 50 amp extension cord.

Consider replacing the connector and cable with SmartPlug. We filled the space between the aluminum skins with a marine semi-hardening foam. Four #10-32, 3" long stainless steel screws hold all in place nicely. Have fender washers and locknuts on the inside skin. See no deflection of outside skin during connection or disconnection. SmartPlug is solid!

I did the same, the only problem is etrailer said they are out of stock and it won't ship until the end of May...Shucks another month fighting the anaconda...

OK, so I'm a cheapskate. I just took a 1" x 3" about 3' long, cut a "V" into one end, and brace it against the ground and bottom of the tire at a 45 degree angle for support and take the weight off the plug. Not wrestling the anaconda sounds tempting, though...

OK............unless the angle of the prop just changes the vector of "weight" forward instead of down.

It seems to take the weight off the plug receptacle itself, as there is no more sag to the plug or flex in the receptacle or skin around it - which is what precipitated my decision for a cob-job quick fix...

Not perfect, but I think it lessens the stress on the receptacle better than just a 90 degree plug, which still has the weight of the plug and lead hanging from the receptacle unsupported.

Another option is this Camco "extension cord" (misnamed). It has a 90 degree female 50A to connect to the trailer and a 50A male for park power.

Current cost is $115. 10 days ago I paid $98 Prime. It works great. The coach end connects with a straight down connector. The handy dandy carrying strap is a nice bonus.

It is much more pliable at colder temps than the Airstream provided "snake".

Highly recommend this bad boy, per the poster above. Money well spent and it’s much more flexible than the standard grey 50A monster......
