RE: power in the Classic. IMHO, two group 27's are insufficient to guarantee an "event free" experience if you plan to be away from a 120V power source for more than a couple of days. Even with the Airstream's solar package (anemic, IMHO), and a lot of sunshine to recharge, the 12V consumers would make me nervous with the '17 version. I suppose you could NOT use these 12V features: recliners, awning, table, bed lift, stabilizers, etc. I have no clue what power the Aldi unit will take to heat your trailer (if you need it), or for providing 12V to the board that'll heat water. A bigger question for me would be the 12V "automatic" heating pads that keep the water/gray/black tanks from freezing. Last week at the International rally we had zero power for many hours -- and then an additional power outage one evening. FACT: if you don't have battery power in an Airstream (of any model), you are in trouble. For absolute certain, I would go nowhere without a generator or an assurance that I can get 120V into my trailer. If you own a Classic your first purchase should be a multi-stage converter/charger. The batteries in the newest Classics are going to get a considerable workout. Meanwhile, Airstream continues to "research" putting multi-stage chargers into their trailers. (I use the quotes as that's the exact word Rick March used last week.) Even at $135,000, Airstream can't seem to spring for a decent converter/charger that costs under $200. I put in a PowerMax PM4B 60 AMP Converter/Charger (4 stage) for $171.20. (No, I'm not going into adding the Magnum MSH 3012 Inverter unit..... or the 600W of solar panels!)

I know there is one added under the sink. I don't know why but the drawer under the couch is gone also. Also, the heating system in general.
Just curious about what I should be looking for in general.
We will be taking long trips in it eventually but no real full timing and will have the truck bed for storage.
Excited but still nervous that we did the right thing. I am having a hard time getting past the...we should have just got the 2016 on the lot, feeling.

Hi Brenda i just got the classic with the new radiant heating system.Plenty of storage space. We have the twin beds. But as far as the new heating system goes, the heat works wonderful.Very even temperature. But the hot water system only gives you 2 minute shower. It is an issue airstream said they are working to resolve. It a gigantic problem. Can not get enough hot water to wash dishes.

Something sounds way amiss if Airstream has installed a hot water system that can only provide 2 minutes of hot water. My guess is there's something amiss with the install. Let's hope.

Wonder how loud the popping noise is when the heater turns on is. When the sun hits ours it sometimes sounds like someone is hitting the trailer. Makes you jump out of bed. Like Babs said earlier and since I am not near a store restrict the air coming out of the front 2 registers and the noise is lower and the temp in the back is better.

Well yikes, Jonathan. I hope that fix happens before ours is built and soon for yours. A daily "navy" shower was not in my plans for our dream trips.

Jonathon, thank you for your post. Before showering did you try the "shower" button on the Alde control? Just wondering if it makes much of a difference.

2017 Classic TWIN On Order!

I have a 2017 TWIN on order and it comes off line 7/28/16. I should have my hands on it first week in August. I ordered the new cabinet color (that was the limited edition 2016 cabinet color). I am not concerned about storage as we will make due with what we have plus can use the bed of the truck if needed. In my opinion, purchasing a 2016 off the lot vs. the 2017 was never an option. There were so many upgrades to the 2017, the extra few thousand was a no brainer. I would be happy to offer more feedback once I have it. We plan to spend a few months in the Palm Desert area during the winter when we escape from Colorado.

Yes I did try that I also tried it on both electric coils and propane . They had the unit back at colonial for two weeks airstream said that was as good as it's going to get . Now they are talking about putting a mixing valve in . But I don't think that is going to fix it either because inside the boiler there is no hot water coil it is nothing more than a water tank against the boiler .

Thank you all for the information. I am going to stop worrying about the little things and work with what I have. I am very excited. We still need to keep posting any new issues that come along as 2017 owners.
Jonathan, did Airstream or Colonial indicate that the hot water problem was going to happen with everyone, or is this just an issue with your trailer?

How are two electric coils and a propane burner not enough? Are the electric coils not in the same water tank as the water that gets to the shower? Seems like there may be a design fault if so.

There are several good Alde videos on YouTube. The company has been producing these systems in Sweden for over 10 years. One video explains how to use the controls, it appears the system is very flexible as far as heating sources, I assume this is more for heating and water recovery. The water temperature is adjustable (separate settings for heat and hot water) You should have the the hot water set fairly high and mix the hot with the cold. This will give you more than a 2 minute shower. If you are running the water heater at a lower temperature and have the shower faucet turned to 100% hot for sure you will run out of water in 2 minutes. If you have the hot water set higher and the faucet set half way you should get a 4 minute shower. The factory claims these unites are comparable with a 6 gal conventional water heater.

Do you know if you are camping with no electricity hook up that the Alde system will operate on propane? If not, would it operate with a small 2000 watt generator?

Yes it will operate on propane. It will use far less power than the traditional furnace as there is no blower motor. No problem with a 2000 watt generator.
