2017 Classic Flooring Questions
The flooring used in the 2017 Classic and perhaps earlier years seems to have a textured surface with ridges. Has anyone had any issues cleaning and washing?
They call it a marine grade flooring, but not sure what that means? Maybe it means it can take all the mopping you throw at it.
Thanks,
SS

I am not sure, but so far it is not our favorite flooring. We travel with two Labradors and the flooring seems to catch and hold dirt much more so than the fake wood vinyl flooring we had in the FC, which we really liked.
We carry a vacuum as well, and we do mop up the floor but with only enough water to dampen the floor, not an excessive amount at all. It's a daily or twice daily job with the two dogs.

We really like the luxury woven vinyl flooring. For one thing, I believe it is glued down rather than free floating. In our previous International, the floating vinyl would expand and contract and leave several raised areas. It was usually in the summer after a cold winter.
We also travel with two large dogs, Golden Retrievers. Hair is the big issue. It seems to vacuum up well. It is a real plus not having a forced air furnace with the floor level intake.
I think the biggest plus of the Classic flooring is the wear factor. It seems very durable.

I have not had any problems keeping the floor clean and I have two little dogs. First I vacume up the dog hair and big stuff then use a swifter (not sure I spelled that right). It doesn't seem to be any more or less work than the hardwood floors I had in my house. I do this just once a day and I am living in it full-time but we are outside as much as possible. What I like most is that if I miss a spot it doesn't show and it doesn't streak or leave paw prints.

2017 Classis Flooring...
I, too, have this "grained" flooring and it drives me crazy. I sometimes have to take a paperclip to get dirt out of the grain, and even then washing only cleans the surface, not the actual grain. So I will be replacing it in April...avidly reading other flooring comments and am leaning toward self-stick tiles just on top of the original--cannot remove and replace the old flooring myself and this seems most practical. Haven't seen any comments on how much weight these tiles would add (23FC), so would welcome comments.

I have retract my previous post on the flooring. After six days out my wife announced "I love this floor". Two Labradors and as she pointed out it shows no dirt.
So, we like the floor and now consider it the best we've had.

Met another 17 Classic owner recently and she has lovely Greek key runners and it does look very nice. I still like the flooring as is.

I wrote in a different post that I dislike the woven marine flooring in our 2017 Classic. I can't see changing it any time soon ... just not practical to do so. That said, we're interested in lots of runners and area rugs. We haven't found the right source for the carpets yet but hope some of you might have some recommendations... And it seems that there are always small aluminum slivers stuck in the flooring which reflect light and drive me batty! :-)
Thanks!

Batty Bits and Best Rugs
Rich,
those bits are AS DNA; embrace the bits. They will vibrate and fall out for years, and watch groping down under the fridge around the tanks, the larger slivers can draw blood.
My wife did extensive research on the flooring before we threw the switch and ordered a '17 Classic. The "Marine grade" comes from the supplier who produced floor coverings for boats, of which, this flooring is a variant. The backing material under the weave, while not sealed, is an open cell foam that can absorb stains if not cleaned up as recommended in the manual. We poured catsup, mustard, and coffee on a 12 x 12 sample at Southland RV GA (thanks Eddie for your patience) and it all came off. Had no wine to try. No worries for liquids soaking through and damaging the plywood; its bulletproof for moisture damage.
I'm the guy who jumps up at the announcement, "Sweepers, sweepers, man your brooms, give the ship a full sweep down . . .". I use a red soft bristle broom from Wal-Mart and an occasional stiff brush from the sink. I successfully dodged the Dyson V8 purchase with some technical huffing and puffing about power supply in the closet, loss of storage, possible damage to the weave from the rotating bristles, etc.
Our rugs of choice are rubber backed, memory foam, microfiber. Sweep well, stay in place, and washable. BASICS brand, I believe from the NEX in Pearl Harbor.

I like everything about the flooring except walking on it in bare feet. After a couple of years, though, we've found the Dyson stick vacuum works really well ... and a few area rugs also dampen the sound and make the trailer a bit warmer.
