2017 Classic 30' Twin Drain Question

Maybe this has been asked and answered...if so please point to the thread (thanks!) Anyway does anyone know if the lavatory sink drains into the grey or black tank? I have looked at the parts book and the schematic makes no sense to me. I have always assumed that all "grey water" drained into the grey tank but in a different thread found out on some models that is not necessarily true. So all you 30' Classic aficionados out there any idea? Thanks! Padawan

Bathroom sink drains into the black tank, same as the 30’ international and 30’ FC.

On the classic twin....

Fresh water tank is 54 gallons
Grey tank is 37 gallon
blank tank is also 39 gallons

So plenty of storage capacity.

Thank you!!

Thanks for the replies! They verified what I was thinking. I have no problem with the lav sink draining to black. In fact I kinda like the idea....adds more water to the black tank. With my previous SOB campers, I was told that sinks and shower drain to the grey and the black was for the toilet only. Not sure that was completely true since I never checked the drain schematics. Anyway thanks again for the verification!

BTW, to hijack my own thread....we LOVE our Airstream. Did we have some bugs to work out...sure. The shakeout was not surprising. Maybe that comes with 41 years of camping from tent to 5th wheel. There are always things to fix and tweak. If you think you are ever done fixing/tweaking, then you better hang up your tent poles. Some of the most fun I have at a campground is watching other campers setup and tear down. You can always learn something.

I know this forum is for problem solving and it has been a GREAT resource! "Much Ado About Alde" comes to mind. But sometimes the "QC" negativity/trolling does get old. So, the purpose of this sidebar is to say I think our Airstream Classic named "ELSA" is WONDERFUL!!! Just a little positive comment. Padawan

Well, if the bathroom sink drains into the black tank on a 2017 30' Classic Twin, somebody forgot to tell my trailer.

I'm sitting here right now still trying to flush the last vestiges of anti-freeze out of my system. Both the bathroom and kitchen faucets are on and have been on for a while. The gray water dump is open, the black water dump is closed. Gray is at zero. Black has been at 10% for the last 15 minutes .....

It's Airstream ... never the same way on anything ....

I realize the plumbing on the OP's 2017 30' Classic may be configured differently than on the 2018 but, for what it's worth, on our '18 30' Classic Twin the lavatory sink drains into the gray tank, the same as on uncle bob's 2017 30' Twin.

Given that there may be variations from the factory, even within model years, I'd suggest to the OP that he run the lavatory faucet for a while and observe his tank monitoring levels, as I just did. In a few minutes he'll have a definite answer!

Good suggestion! After Uncle Bob's reply that thought had occurred to me too. On my next outing, I will run water in the lav sink and see which tank monitor changes. I will report my findings back to this thread.

I'll be interested to read what you find out. I prefer to have the lav sink drain to the gray tank. If you're boondocking for a few days, holding tank capacity can become an issue. Although there is debate on the subject, in an emergency one could reasonably dump some of the gray tank contents wherever, but the black tank demands dump station access. I'd rather reserve the black tank capacity for the really nasty stuff!

Lav sink drains into black tank in 30ft models only. All others go to the gray.

Sorry, but in at least one case....mine....that's inaccurate. As I posted earlier in this thread, to confirm that the lav sink in our 2018 30' Classic Twin drains into the gray tank I ran the lav faucet and watched the gray tank monitor climb from 0 to 6%. Another 30' Classic owner also confirmed (see Uncle Bob's post above) that his lav sink drains into the gray tank.

I have a 2018 FC 30 rbt. Now I’m confused. I really hope that my bathroom sink flows into my black tank! I better check it next trip to confirm.
Too bad that we own a summer business and only travel in the “off” and “Shoulder” season so we can’t test it for a while.

Most certainly not true on my 30' 2017 Classic.

I think one of the most important things I have learned since the purchase of my AS is that no 2 AS are identical. There many be many similarities and on the surface they may seem to be identical but dig a little deeper and there is something unique to each one. This observation can be both good and bad depending of the situation but I think it is safe to say that any time someone says “All (models/years/etc) have “ would be I incorrect. I see many post that start out with “well, on my AS....” which appears to be more accurate.

2017 Classic and previous three Airstream all sinks and shower drain into the grey tank. Only the toilet drains into the black. Just guessing but all Airstream’s are the same as are all RVs. We’ve owned a number and all did it this way

For what it's worth, on our 2017 25' Flying Cloud Twin, the lavy sink drained into the black tank as shown in the diagram below. I discovered this the hard way although disaster was fortunately avoided. I like that on our '18 30' Classic Twin it drains into the gray tank.

Wow. What are they smoking at Jackson Center? So, your lav sink, and maybe your shower may or may not drain into the black tank? Looks like it's time to test my AS next time I'm out with full hook ups.

Schematic shows it, but does it? But then not sure it matters. Would not matter to me as we try to always camp at full hook ups.
