Torpedo

A member of the tin can tourists had a 1935 AS Torpedo for sale on consignment. Tin Heinz designs. Hope this info is correct. Never heard of a torpedo.

This Dr. Hollmans self built trailer built from plans designed by Wally. Evidently, the family has decided to part with it.

I'm betting we are looking at over $125,000 to play in this ballpark.

A new one would be just that. This one is considered the oldest Airstream out there. BIG difference.

Many of us could build one!

I was just kidding, Dan. I could build one but who would want it. I already have a Bambi that's too small.

I have a copy of the original plans from Wally's nephew PeeWee. They leave much to the imagination for finishing off the interior.

Agreed...I actually think the Torpedo is pretty ugly, but with this trailer provenance is everything and I respect what it means the the trailering community.

Who says a Bambi is too small? By reallocating a lot of the space on my rebuild, I created what is probably the only Bambi II bunkhouse model, with plenty of room for our family of four! It really encourages us to spend time outside rather than in the trailer when camping. That is what it is all about.

And it is huge compared to our former camping trailer- a 1961 13' Serro Scotty!

The recent "Old Granddad" thread prompted the unearthing of this thread. FYI here are some search results about the AS Torpedo:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=1935+Airst...&t=ffcm&ia=web

Sold to a museum in Texas?

Happy Trails.
