Twin Beds

Recently ordered a Serenity 28 RB Twin and am interested in opinions on the comfort of the mattresses.

Twin mattress comfort

We have a 2019 FC 25 RBT. We brought it home in May, 2019 and have 45 nights in it so far. We think the mattresses are just fine. You will get all manner of opinions on the supplied Airstream bedding. We are not the kind of folks that spend big $$$$ on a mattress for our home so we may have a jaded opinion. Try them for a while. Lots of folks have added a strip of plywood to the mattress base widening it by a couple of inches. We have not found that is needed. Happy travels.

We have 2017 Serenity and have have over 400 nights on them. They are very comfortable.

I would recommend putting some Hypervent pads under them to provide more air circulation to prevent condensation (mildew).

Ours are fine
I did add some 3/8" plywood pieces to widen the base 3", this helps a lot.

Tuft & Needle option

If you’re not happy with the original mattress you can try a memory foam topper or swap them for the Tuft & Needle that come in the Globetrotter.

We had a FC23FB queen and did the memory foam topper from Costco. It helped but was not as comfortable as the ones in our ‘19 Globetrotter twin. They are the closest to our home bed.

*I agree with doing the HyperVent and extending the base with plywood. Worked great for us.

We have Sleep number P5 King mattresses at home (bought on sale). We caught the C4 (I think) extended twins on sale last year (I think they were $299 each) and added 2" of foam on top. We sleep as well as at home.

In our older Classic there is a space of several inches at the foot of the bed that allows the use of the extended twin mattresses. We stuff pillows in the curved space at the head left by the standard shape mattresses. Each extended twin is equivalent to half a king size mattress. I had to extend the plywood base a couple of inches into the aisle, but the improvement in sleep is worth it.

This is our second Airstream (2019 International Serenity) and we just got back from our first 2 week vacation in it. Our first one had the queen beds. This one has the twin beds. We are a big fan of the twin beds for the ease of getting around and into cupboards. It actually gives an optical illusion of a much bigger interior. Our trial sleepover was in our driveway. We are both in the 200 pound range. We felt like we "bottomed out" so ordered memory foam mattress covers made for Airstream. That solved that problem, we highly recommend them. However on vacation we both felt like we were rolling off the bed and it interfered with our sleep. We were quite disappointed. I am a builder/designer (show cars, houses). I was first thinking of how to redesign the entire bed (which would take hours of work and several hundred dollars). As I thought about it, I remembered the easiest idea is sometimes the best. So I simply put the supplied 18" square Airstream topper pillow under the center of the mattress close to the open side of the bed. Guess what, it worked! What an easy fix for a big problem. Time to fix problem: 10 seconds. Out of pocket cost $0. Results: works great!

Welcome to the endless world of Airstream upgrades.

On our trailer the platforms under the mattress were thin and weak resulting in a sag.

So we made wider and longer platforms and had some mattresses custom made.

Now the mattresses can also be switched.

Fun upgrade.

Our 2021 International is fitted with twins and they're great. Extremely comfortable but I experienced the "rolling off" sensation you mentioned in your post. So being very smart, I followed your suggestion and used the pillow.
Worked like a charm! Thank you!
