Sorry I haven’t responded but we were on the road trying to get back to north country from FL with both of us sick. We ran into 20 degree weather and had to winterize both rigs on the road (Roadtrek and the AS) Then came the black ice...

Update: We had an appointment at Jackson Center to have the pump replaced while on the way home and we mentioned it at that time. He said that’s just the way it is as the tank is only 8” deep and straight below you so you look right down into it. I had been using a ton of water, of course, using buckets at a time, but to no avail. What I was also doing was comparing it to how my Roadtrek flushes. For one thing, you can’t see into the tank, which is always nice. Secondly, the RT flushes like a Hoover on steroids sucks. Everything just drops down in the AS. So, on my part, I’ll be more diligent about keeping chemical in it in order to keep my poop slurry working. Admittedly I had faltered in that regard as there was never any smell. I never thought about having to dissolve it.

Thank you for all of your help!

When readying the tank, we also add about a tablespoon of DAWN detergent to the chemical and water. So far, so good.

Thanks for the update, and hope you are both feeling better.

A technique I have used for more than a decade is what I call the “toilet bomb” system. After pulling the gate valve open, allow the black tank flush to continue flushing the tank. Go back inside the coach and allow the toilet to fill completwith water. Then open the foot valve fully. This will drop a torrent of water directly on top of any buildup, breaking it down and washing it away with the black tank flush. This can be repeated as often as required. If you use a clear elbow and have someone in the coach drop the “bomb”, you can see how effective this technique is. Give it a try.
