Just got offline with Michelin. The LTX defenders are definitely NOT light truck tires.
The rep I chatted with says, they do not make an LT tire in 235/75/r15. They do make LT tires in the defender lineup, just not the size need for our 15 inch rims.
Back to looking at the nokians again. LTX means nothing. It is just part of the name.

Thank you all gentleman...and ladies! Just to let all you Michelin tire aficionados out there know...while I was at work, my lovely wife was at home perusing airforums and came across your thread. SHE is the one that did the research and contacted Michelin to help you guys out! So let’s give her a hand![emoji122]Just a side note, I generally don’t argue with my wife after 30 years of marriage for good reasons![emoji56]Carry on!

For the record, not all LT tires have max inflation pressure of 80psi. Some of the larger sizes have 65psi limites.

Can I put Michelin LTX 235/75R15 XL tires on?

Any other suggestions?
The ltx tires are not lt tires. On edit, sorry for the duplicated info!

The 235/75r15 Michelin tire is kind of in between, as it's not a normal P, nor an LT, but an XL (extra load) P tire construction.
Just read the load rating, multiply by 4. Should be more than your airstream weighs (with derate if needed). It’s not that complicated.

But it's a little more complicated than that. There is side to side and front to rear weight variation - so the tire's load carrying capacity MUST be more than the WORST.

I replaced the 14" wheels and GYM tires which seem to have a lot of tire failures, on my Bambi 16' and I put 15" Michelin Defender xtra load 235/75/15 on It, and 15" Sendel rims ...I've driven 2000 miles on them and they seem to work very well....It's a tire with proven reliability....Airstream puts them on some models....

Actually, they can be. Some sizes are P and others are LT. In some specific sizes, you have a choice of P or LT.

Load rating, while being the primary consideration for us, is only part of the equation. P vs LT is also a matter of stability and durability. LT sizes further come in load ratings of C,D,E. With higher ratings generally also having more stability and puncture resistance.

Though with that comes a generally a rougher ride, so it's not always ideal to reach for the highest load capacity.

And according to Michelin, they do design tires for pickup trucks but only have 4 ply. An LT tire has to be 6 or more plies.

The number of plys come from the days of bias ply tires where load range C equates to 6 physical plys, D 8 plys, E 10 plys, and so on.

It's no longer that way as manufacturers have much more technology and materials at their disposal. Load range now equates to a ply rating which is a capacity rating rather than physical plys. Manufacturers do whatever they need to meet those requirements. Either by material, thicker/more steel belts, etc. Even really really heavy duty tires now only have 2-3 fabric plies and a steel body ply.

Yes, I agree. I forgot to add to my post that 4 ply was in regards specifically to Defender LTX M/S 235/75R15.[emoji4]
