Well done

Would love to know if you have any interest in fabricating another set of shelves... have a 27' 2016 International Signature and would be happy to pay for the shelves! I'm also sure there are many other AS customers out there interested in the same... let me know!

That's really flattering, thank you. We both work full time, so going into production isn't really possible. My husband plans to write up a set of instructions that will guide people on how these were made. His hope is that you can then make them yourself, or contract with a local handyman.

I'd love to get those plans when they're ready. I've been thinking about how to get something similar made with a 3D printer.

Understood... if you could provide an update to this thread when the plans are complete, that would be greatly appreciated!

OK, I will remind my husband that you are all waiting for the instructions. I'm not very good at nagging though, but I will try.

I asked about overhead storage in a similar thread in the kitchen storage forum:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f46/...rs-174850.html

I really want to do this to maximize the storage height that is lost due to curve. He did a great job on this.

You do realize that the photos are not of an Airstream? It's one of these: https://earthroamer.com/

I glad that people like our solution. We are new.

I love your solution

Here are a couple of [minor] questions...

1. What is the load limit of the overhead bins? Does it vary by trailer size/model? Is this info published somewhere and I'm too senile to even know where to look?

2. How do the inside-the-bin lights look with the new shelving installed? Do the translucent panels still have that lovely Airstream "glow?"

Again... super great work, thanks for posting!

Rob

1. I don't know what the load limit is, hopefully someone else will know the answer.

2. The lights still look nice. A bit blocked by the upper shelf.

Also, I nagged my husband, he is going to get right on it! (instructions that is)

How did it work on the road? We've had those sliding doors open of occasion. Do thing slide forward and push on the sliding panels? It looks real nice if they work.

We haven't much experience with the locker storage in action. Just from our house back to the trailer storage facility. But, with that small drive, the dishes stayed right where we put them, except for the plastic stuff on the top shelf. It all fell down. I have purchased a curtain tension bar to hold them back during driving. We are going to a Square Dance Festival this weekend, I will update you on the functionality when we get back.

Yes, in that post, Identify it as being from an EarthRoamer.

But it was the closest thing I could find online (until this thread) that represented in picture what I had in mind for the overhead bin.

Thanks for the inspiration! I have been setting up our 28FC and getting ready to go. As I was putting all the plates and glassware in, I realized that the cabinets are not very efficient. So I did a little woodworking and built these for over the stove and sink.

So, I had promised that my husband would write up some instructions. Well, he had a good start on it when his computer died. Now he's out of the country and the computer is in the repair shop. I promise that we will get it done.

Also, someone had asked about the stability of the dishes while on the road. We went for a weekend away, and everything stayed right where we put them. I had to get a tension rod for the top shelf of plastic stuff, but the lower dishes were perfect.

Did anymore come of this thread? I think I have a line on someone who could make shelves for me finally and I'm wondering if instructions/templates are out there somewhere that I haven't looked. Thanks

Hello AirstreamInc......Hope you see these clever padded shelves and pass the idea on to your design team. Sure would be nice to incorporate into our kitchen overhead storage.

Templates might be specific to each model so my templates might not work for your AS. What you can do is take a piece of cardboard that will set in the cabinet flat on the bottom and straight up to the farthest point out. This will leave a large blank space at the bottom and back. Then take a compass and hold it at the farthest space on the bottom and as you lift it up you will mark the outline of the back curve on the cardboard. Probably not a very good explanation but I got the idea from a wooden boat building book. When I get home I will try to get some diagrams for you on how to do this.
