Check your current insurer - we have Allstate and found that their coverage was as good as any third party (plus nice having one insurer on the tow vehicle and rig.
For the price, I am partial to the Equi-Tech hitch. We have a RAM 2500 and it helped control the stability and bobbing of the trailer compared to just using the basic hitch and ball. People swear by the Pro Pride and Henley and other pricier hitches, but it depends on your tow rig as to whether those more expensive ones are necessary.
