Vintage Airstream Club 2017 Pre-International Rally “Rendezvous”

This year the” Rendezvous Rally” will be held immediately preceding the International Rally

When: July 17 to July 19, 2017
Where: The Summer Breeze Campground and RV Park, W8576 Twin Falls Road, Iron Mountain, Mi 49801, (906) 774-7701.
Reservations available after January 1.

Summer Breeze Campground is located in Iron Mountain MI about 1 hour West of Escanaba where the International Rally will be held. We plan to leave the morning of July 20, meet at the fair grounds in Escanaba and then parade into international.

Rally Fee: TBD ( to be determined). We are discussing possible evening meal options by local charities with the Chamber of Commerce. Rally fee will be in addition to the campground fee.

Campground Fee: (paid directly to the campground) for water & electric with dump station our group rate is $22/night if we have less than 20 campers and $22 if we have more than 20. Full hookups are available at a higher rate. June and July are the campgrounds busy season so they will hold some sites until May 1st. After that it is "As Available" so reserve early.

The campground has 70 large grassy campsites of which 28 are full hookup and 42 are water & electric. They are pet friendly and sites are large and level with lot of trees. The main building has restroom/showers, swimming pool, camp store and laundry available with WIFI available at sites close to the office. Phone coverage is said to be good on ATT and Verizon and there are only a few over the air channels and no cable. If you have satellite please let them know and they will try to accommodate you. This is a Good Sam and Escapee’s listed campground.

Local Attractions: We toured local attractions and found them to be reasonably priced and interesting. These include:

The Cornish Pump and Mining Museum has exhibits of iron mining equipment and features the largest stem engine & pump ever built in North America. This pump is huge! Over 54’ tall with a 40’ flywheel and weighs 160 tons.

WWII Glider and Military Museum. This is at the same location as the Cornish Pump and has on display 1 of 8 remaining WWII Waco combat gliders along with patterns, jigs and plans for building them. They were made by Ford Motor Co in a local factory that also made wood frames for Model A bodies and all the Ford “Woody” wagons. Ford Model A’s are on display including a fire truck, dump truck and a later woody wagon.

Big John’s Iron Mine. Tour includes equipment exhibits, a short ride into the mine on an underground mine train and a walking tour thru some passages to a large cavern.

“Ski-ters” water skiing show on Wednesday evening. This is an informal, free donation encouraged, show only minutes away on a nearby lake where one of the top rated water ski teams in the country show off everything from their jumping and competition routines to young family members just learning to jump.

Menominee Range Historical Museum – former Carnegie Library with exhibits about life in the late 1800’s thru early 1900’s.

Other nearby activities include Fishing, Boating, Hiking, ATV trails, River Rafting, Kayaking, Canoeing, Bird Watching and Golf.

July 20 - Vintage Parade into Escanaba

We will leave the morning of July 20 and meet at the outdoor stage area of Ludington Park in Escanabe at 10:30 and parade thru town to the fair grounds.

As is our tradition, the host can pick the rally location. Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska

An added incentive, our host will receive one new Airstream book for each 2017 rallies hosted.
