Is the VAC still functioning?

There is nothing new on their website, and the Login doesn't seem to function. Before I renew my dues online, I thought I would get an update.

Thanks,

Mike,

It certainly is and I can help get you up and running. The site contains a forums, store, document library for registered members and lots of other stuff.
The site was completely revamped last year and people have been renewing online, joining online, reading the newsletter online....
If you want to, PM me and I will get you all set up and running.

Tim

The VAC site is alive and well. Not a lot of traffic, but interesting vintage stuff does show up. You can get request a new password from the site. Tim runs the site and he is ofter over here as well.

Thanks for the prompt replies.

Are there any plans to caravan into the WBCCI Rally this year?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Glad to hear somebody else is having this problem. I had given up on the VAC web site. I had initially obtained my password and logged on, but then it stopped accepting my password. The new web site is a big improvement over the old one, but I'm not sure the login system is worth the trouble. Guess I'll give it another try.

Smile What you should see

For anybody reading this and having problems with passwords I wanted to see if you all are seeing what I see.

First of all, when the site was first released, all of the users accounts were set up manually with a user ID and random password. That was for every VAC member we had an email address for. We sent out an email message of the account details to each and every person. That message was opened by just over 50% of the people, the rest - who knows why it was not read, marked as spam, overlooked, whatever.

The rest have accessed the site, updated their profile and changed their passwords and USER IDs where applicable. But for the folks who have never accessed the site they are frustrated that things do not work. Most have been polite, but a very few have been downright rude. I have been working my hardest to make the site easier and user friendly based on the comments and suggestions from those who have difficulty.

I test the site functionality on literally a dozen browsers, on 6 different computers, on 4 different operating systems, using 3 different internet connections. Thus far, I have heard a few complaints that the "Lost Password" page does not work, but I cannot see that happening. It works for me every time no matter what I am using.

So, in the interest of trying to figure out what the problem is I am posting screenshots of the Forgot Password page.

This should be what you see when you go to the Forgot Password page. Both the little gray check-box and the words "Lost Username" & "Lost Password" are links.

Clicking the "Lost Username" link or box should show you this:

Clicking the "Lost Password" box should show you this:

And clicking both boxes should show you this:

Now, if somebody is having any experience other than what I describe I would like to know about it so I can fix it. I have been responding to every help request usually within a few hours. I am here for the members of the VAC.

I don't know the details, but I do know Jim Cooper - VAC 1st VP would be the person "in the know" regarding any pre-rally plans. He's JimC here on the forums...although he doesn't post here much.

I am currently working with the VAC officers to develop a Wagon Wheels Caravan to the International. While plans are still in the tentative, formative stages, the following is the outline that I am working from:
  • June 15, 2011 -- Kick-Off -- Southwest Wisconsin/Northwest Illinois
    • Kick-Off Welcome with performance by local Wisconsin German Band
    • Hamburger and Brat cookout with side-dish potluck.
  • June 16, 2011 -- Non-Travel Day
    • Tour on your own -- Galena, Illinois; Mineral Point, Wisconsin; Dairyland of Southwest Wisconsin.
    • Cornish Pasty Dinner at local Cafe know for this delicacy.
  • June 17, 2011 -- LaSalle/Peru, Illinois -- I & M Canal and the Quad Cities
    • Tour Quad Cities and LaSalle/Peru on-your-own
    • Evening Activity to be Determined
  • June 18, 2011 -- Non-Travel Day
    • I & M Canal Boat Tour -- A quiet afternoon of relaxation.
    • Evening Activity to be Determined
  • June 19, 2011 -- State Capital, Springfield, Illinois
    • Tour Lincoln Sites on-your-own
    • Tour State Capital on-your-own
    • Evening Activity to be Determined
  • June 20, 2011 -- State Capital, Springfield, Illinois
    • Tour Lincoln Sites on-your-own
    • Tour State Capital on-your-own
    • Drive-in Movie -- (Hoping for Vintage Movie and working with owner of theater in hopes of arranging The Long, Long, Trailer or something similar)
  • June 21, 2011 -- Ohio River Road Territory -- Rosiclare, Illinois to Cairo, Illinois.
    • This will be a one-night stop at a location to be determined. We will likely be very near Rosiclare, but the exact location is to be determined.
  • June 21, 2011 -- Along the Ohio River Road Territory
    • Tour Ohio River Road Territory on-your-own
    • Shawnee Queen Riverboat/River Taxi tour of the Ohio River between Rosiclare and Cairo
  • June 22, 2011 -- Along the Ohio River Road Territory
    • Tour Ohio River Road Territory on-your-own
    • Visit Superman's Hometown (Metropolis, Illinois)
  • June 23, 2011 -- Along the Ohio River Road Territory
    • Picnic Lunch or Dinner catered by Shemwell's Bar-B-Que, Cairo, Illinois.
    • The hope is to arrange overnight dry camping at the Fort Defiance Park in Cairo that has an excellent view of the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.
  • June 24, 2011 -- Caravan Finale
    • I am trying to make arrangements for full-hookup accommodations for this final night of our caravan so we can arrive fresh and ready for the International Rally in DuQuoin.
    • Arrangements are in the works with Giant City State Park Lodge for a catered family-style fried chicken dinner with all of the accompaniments and the finale for our Caravan.
I have verbal agreements with several of the points on the tour, but it is still too early for me to be completely confident that all will proceed according to this plan. My goal is to have most everything firmed up withing three and at most four weeks.

Kevin

P.S.: Once I have more of the arrangements nearing finalization, I will post back via a separate thread.

How about activities at International?

1. Parade?
2. Open House?
3. Vintage Happy Hour?
4. Other?

I think all of the above will be occurring. At Gillette there was a happy hour every night. Parking in the vintage area is the best place to be.

I second that, at Salem and Bozeman, the vintage area was the only place to be.

no, its not low but, yea, somewhere around there. Butthat is only because once again, the renewal notice went out late in the newsletter and was largely ignored. As of this point I have sent out an email blast to the folks who we had on record as not renewing. That message was viewed by probably a larger population (44% opening) and I am in the process of sending out the dreaded "Your Membership has Expired" postcard. I ran out halfway through addressing them so I had to order more. As soon as I get them, those will go out as well. We get the highest response after the post cards go out.
But all in all, based on my experience with the membership numbers, where we are now is about where we have been for the last few years - low numbers but still coming in.

Seems to me VAC membership was only around eight or nine hundred back when we joined several years ago. Back then total WBCCI membership was around 9,000, so if VAC membership numbers have declined proportionally it would be around five or six hundred today.

Actually I suspect that VAC members are over-represented in those who have left WBCCI, so VAC membership might be less than that.

Maybe Tim can tell us.

I'm not a member currently. Where do I find more information? Do you need to be a WBCCI member in order to join?

Semi-clear...how many newsletters? Any way that I could preview an old newsletter so that I can see what I'd be paying for?

It is my understanding that a non WBCCI member receives four newsletters. The current newsletter is here: Spring, 2008 | Vintage Airstream Club
