Dr. Norman "Doc" Holman 1935 Torpedo
I regret to inform the community that Doc Holman Jr. has had a heart attack and is currently in hospital in Sedalia, MO. Most VAC'ers know of Doc because he has brought his father's 1935 Torpedo trailer made from Wally Byam's kit plans to VAC rallies for years. His condition is unknown but we are all concerned for his well being.
We have nothing more to report on this but if we do hear more, we will let everybody know.

We hope he has a speedy and complete recovery. Thank you for keeping us informed.
Meeting him a few years ago was a highlight of the rally. It was really interesting to see his rig and obtain a first-hand view of a "plan" trailer.

Dr. Norman "Doc" Holman 1935 Torpedo
That is certainly distressing news about the junior Dr. Holman.
I have fond memories of the days when the senior Dr. Holman accomanied him the International Rallys. The senior Dr. Holman war there for many historical developments in the Airstream compan . . . and it was so very interesting to listen to him recounting the building and use of his trailer. It was a sad day when the senior Dr. Holman passed.
I am certain that best wishes are being sent his way for a quick and complete recovery by his friends and acquaintances within the VAC.
The junior Dr. Holman continued his father's tradition of bringing the family trailer to the International Rallys where he often made his presentation about "My Father's Trailer". I have missed very few International Rallys, and seem to remember seeing at least one Holmans and the coach at every rally that I have attended since 1998.
Kevin
P.S.: I suspect that we may be receiving word of more heat related illnesses at this year's rally. I liver about 3 hours Southeast of the rally site, and we have been in a record breaking heat wave for more than a week. Yesterday, the all-time record high of 107 degrees was tied. The current weather forecast is for temperatures above 100 degress for the next seven days. . .

My best wishes for his speedy recovery too. I met him at Gillette in 2010 and made the mistake of saying the Torpedo was "kit built." He was quick to set me straight.

Definitely my hope for Neil's speedy recovery. I was stunned at first read and wish to inform my Airforum friends that Doc. Neil Holman is not related to me....at least as far as I know.

Not sure... We left on Sunday to head over to family for the 4th. I know his brother was supposed to pick up his van and trailer. But as of Sunday it was still there.
BTW, I made a mistake. His name is Norm, not Neil. My bad. I am a little worried that we don't have any news but I will try to find out what I can.

Jan and I got to spend a few minutes chatting with him inside the Torpedo during the VAC open house. He will be missed, Rest in Peace "Doc".

Here's an interesting, short article regarding Norman Holman and the "Torpedo" on their way to Sedalia.

Condolences
My condolences to Norman's family and to the Airstream community. That he would die while attending the International Rally is striking. Here is a photo I took of him at a past Interantional Rally.

Sad to hear this... Here is a video of Dr. Holman taking about the trailer he and his father have shared with "us" for the last 3/4 century.

I wanted to let everyone know...if interested, that the memorial service will be at Lake Eufaula in Alabama on the 21st of July at about 10:30 I believe. I'm one of his nephews. It's amazing to see how much of a following this trailer has had and it's also nice to see the many people here and their comments. I may have met a few of you when I helped my dad (his brother) pick up the trailer from Sedalia, MO.
Anyway, if you are interested in being update just let me know. As far as in the future of the trailer I am not sure. I do hope though that it continues the tradition as it has for years now so others can see it

I'm not sure. I've looked and haven't seen anything either. Nothing from Sedalia, Pensacola, nor Ozark. I'll ask my dad tomorrow to see if one was done.
