Wanted: Classic Avion/Cayo Slid-In Truck Camper

Title: Add New - Airstream Trailer Classifieds - Airstream Trailers For Sale
I just posted a new ad on Airstream Classifieds.

Hi All,

Been awhile since Ive logged on to the Forums but I assure you I've dropped in from time to time and been browsing around.

I'm looking for my next project which I intend on being a fully enabled boon docking unit.
Im in search of a classic Avion or Cayo slide-in truck camper. I'd like to obtain the C-11 model but I'm not totally against the C-10 model. If it already has a grey water system installed thats a big plus for me. I'd really like for the exterior aluminum to be in great shape and not needing panel replacement. The interior is not so much a big issue as long as the vast majority is still intact as I do plan to tear it out and customize it to my preference. Also it would be a major plus to me if all the rigging and securing system is included with the sell so that I don't have to scurry the internet trying to find the proper tie downs for towing it. Safety first right?
I'm open to traveling to obtain one of these units but if its just to far out of reach then I can arrange shipping to have the camper brought to me.

Please let me know if you have a unit for sale or if you know where a unit is that is for sale.

Thanks everyone and happy and safe travels to you all!
You can contact us by filling in the form on the right hand column of the ad listing:

I'll keep my eyes open for a C-11 in my Craigslist roaming and let you know if I see one show up. I have seen some very nice ones recently, and some really trashed ones. You never know what'll show up!

Are you familiar with www.searchtempest.com? It's an easy way to look at a LOT of Craigslist sites.... just plug in your zipcode, the mile radius you'd like to contain it to (I set mine to "all"), put "Avion C-11" or "Cayo C-11" in the search field, select "recreational vehicles", then search.

I found our Avion that way! Made a 2000-mile round trip up to Lake Superior to get it because it was such a great deal.

I was not aware of that website, but its a great tool for a quick scan of CL.
I do have an app on my iPad in which I can select multiple cities and search.
But I like the website you mentioned better as I mostly do my browsing from my laptop.
I do browse the regulars such as eBay & CL.
A few months back I missed out on a heck of a unit in Florida. I was off on a trip when I seen it for sale and couldn't get back in time to make the purchase. Someone beat me to it.
Patience will pay off though.
Thanks for the link and the help!

Seen them both, the exterior of the truck camper seems to be ok but theres no interior pics. I requested pics of the interior but have yet to hear back.

Perhaps this might work if you haven't caught the week old posting in Michigan (1966 Avion C10 for sale in Big Rapids Michigan - United States). I look for classic cars and feel that success in that effort can often be timing related. Just need to keep rolling the dice it seems...

I followed this listing when it was on eBay. I think the bid got as high as $2500 and the reserve wasn't met. I was hoping they would re-list it and take another run at it. Its my understanding that the C-11 model had a grey water tank and the C-10 didn't. I may be wrong here but seems thats what I've read. I'd rather have a grey water tank if possible.
Other than the one place under the bottom the skins seemed to be in good condition on it. I don't think it would be to hard to fix that one spot.
I assume one could always figure out a way to install his own grey tank.

This one would be a good candidate for restoration. The only thing I have concern about with this particular unit is in one of the side pictures it looks as if he still has a tool box in the bed of the truck with the camper sitting on top of it. I could be wrong but Ive looked at it a few times and if that is actually what is happening then I would imagine there is some unseen damage there.

I appreciate y'all reporting your findings. The more eyes looking the better!

I've seen a few FS on evil-bay over the past 12+ months which come up on my Avion saved search for trailer stuff for our `60 T20.

Suggest you set up a search for Avion under the motors & car parts areas (at least), with daily email notifications to catch any which come up.

Good Luck!
Tom

There's a very nice 1973 Cayo Motovator available in Hanford, California. It's a "not quite finished" restoration project, but don't let that scare you. What's done has been done right ... and at $8,000 it seems like a bargain to me. I'd buy it, but my wife won't let me. Check Fresno Craigslist.

Hmm...No I in fact have not seen that one. But for the price of the combo that is for sure one to pursue.
I'll send them an email and see if its still available.

Thanks!

Well I may have struck a deal on a Cayo in good shape by what I seen in the pictures thus far. The Gentlemen whom which I spoke with was very nice and seemed very excited to sell to me when I told him my plans for the vintage unit.

But beings its so far away now I must source shipping.
