Question Paypal

Selling our Airstream. Used the Airstream classified. Buyer wants to pay by PayPal. Question: never used this should I be worried if buyer will only use this instead of transferring money via bank. This is a lot of money. Realize buyer is out of state and has not seen the Airstream in person but ........

I sure as heck would not, many scams have happen thru fake PayPal accounts and this sounds like one.

You will get lots of comments on this.

No, no, no, no, no.
US Dollars or wire transfer to your bank, while you are there to verify.
With Paypal, NO seller protection.

Run!
I have been cheated, and not protected by PayPal.
I lost a fair sum...

Certified Paper Check or electronic funds transfer only. Only release the title / trailer once funds have cleared. Any reasonable / serious / real buyer won't have an issue with either of those methods.

There are at least three indicators of potential fraud in the OP. 1) wanting to use PayPal, 2) never saw the trailer, 3) out of state.

RUN AWAY!!!

And maybe a fourth - wonder how long the ad was up before getting a sight-unseen interested party?

Indeed. Run!

I would not even take cash, a bank check or money order. I would tell the buyer that I will hold the Airstream for 24-48 hours for them to come inspect. Then we will go to my bank with me pulling the Airstream, you will deposit the cash or wire transfer the money, and you can take the Airstream when the bank accepts the cash or wire transfer. I've bought and sold several RVs with this method. All forms of payment, cash, bank check, paypal, and money order can be fake. The bank will verify the payment is real and then you release the RV.

I had one buyer walk away from this transaction process. They kept coming over after the bank was closed with the cash. I told them to come back when the bank was open. They refused and kept coming back with cash after the bank was closed. Either the cash was fake, or they planned on returning later that evening to steal the cash back. Either way, I did not sell them the RV.

Buying an Airstream that you have never seen wouldbe a red flag to me.

I like your system, Airmiles. Will use it in the future. The way I see it, a serious buyer will have no problem accommodating a seller with a verified, documented bank transaction.

Even if this is a legitimate sale and no risk of fraud you would not want to use paypal due to there fees.
