I just posted a new ad on Airstream Classifieds.
It is with great regret that we offer our beloved Argosy Airstream motorhome up for sale. We recently moved from Washington state and have no feasible way to continue its restoration. It only has 38K on the original engine. Most of the rubber was replaced around 10 years ago and except for an occasional transmission leak it appears sound. We recently drove it from Seattle to San Jose with no problems! This model has the RARE and sought after mid-bath configuration with the rear bedroom. It took us a long time to find this floor plan, as we love the light and windows in the sleeping area. It has the vista view windows for allowing plenty of light in without compromising privacy.
Here is the positive- mechanically sound. We recently had it gone over by a mechanic, and apart from thin brake pads in the rear (I detected some grinding as we got into San Jose and the price reflects a $450 brake job) he gave it a clean bill of health. We have had no problems with the engine and even have fairly cold air from the AC. We have done work inside including a new hot water heater, new IC panel for the fridge, new faucet, much new LED lighting, newly covered gaucho and swivel chairs in retro awesome fabric (more fabric to finish covering driver and passenger chairs), New double din stereo with Bluetooth and GPS, new aluminum blinds throughout, some of which has been installed. Princess stove (marine grade stove with glass cooktop-look it up) has been purchased but not installed. New front tires and recent alignment. Of course it has the coveted Built-in mixer, along with the knife sharpener!
As with all 40 year old vehicles there are some idiosyncrasies including the leaking transmission, need for a new light switch (shorts instrument light fuse out when adjusting brightness, a $40 fix), leaking air bag on the front needs to be replaced (2 new airbags purchased but not installed), one of two auxiliary batteries does not hold charge long, and general wear in some parts of the finish.
It is a work in progress, but in general an excellent candidate for restoration. Please come and examine carefully. This is our third Airstream project and we understand the balance between the love of the RV with the practicality of a budget. Unless you have unlimited funds, in which case we insist on seeing the finished product.
