Title: NULL NULL NULL NULL - NULL
I just posted a new ad on Airstream Classifieds.
26’ Custom California Whale Tail Dual Axle Wide Body 90% restored.
I’m listing my 1955
26’ Overlander/Cruiser/Custom California Whale Tail Airstream
This is a wide body model about 8” wider than standard model for 1955
. It is 90” wide inside while most of the 1950’s were only around 82” inside. It also has two axles, which was not standard for the Overlander. This extra 8” makes a huge difference and is very noticeable. The serial number is 6593 which is in the Overlander number range, but if you have any experience with 1950-1960 airstream, you know that Serial Number is “just a guideline”. The factory wasn’t very consistent and tended to use whatever parts were on hand that day. Custom orders were encouraged and there are numerous different modifications of all early Airstreams. The Whale Tail or Dutchman’s Cap on the rear was made from around 1954-1956 with about 400-600 produced in L.A. only. No sure anybody knows for sure exact date or quantities, but considered by many to be more desirable than the standard 13 panel.
If you are looking for an all original or a real steal, you can quit reading. This is a very nice usable Airstream with many modern features, suitable for dry camping or being campground connected. Black and Grey tanks have been added.
I have restored 4 early 1950’s and this is by far the best one, about 90% complete, but since I can’t work on until Spring 2017, am going to list for sale “as-is”

This is ready to camp today, and can be towed anywhere. The tires are 15” Marathon off of a 2013 28’ Airstream and still have plenty of thread. I would deliver anywhere in the US for $1.50 per mile.
Now for the bad news, there is still a lengthy “to-do” list before it’s vintage rally ready!
Finish polishing, I have finished the 1st cut with Nuvite F9 and 8” Caswell vented wheels, so the worst is done. Included in sale at least ½# of Nuvite F9, 1# of F7, some G6 and 1# of S, plus two 7” buffers and numerous pads/wheels. AND best part of the deal a CYCLO buffer with only about 200 hours of use. (That’s over $500 in polish and buffers)
Belly Pan is okay, but should be replaced around the new tanks
Drip caps need to be removed and new ones (included) to be installed
Rub Rails need to be removed and new ones (included) to be installed
The Hot Water heater needs a box or curtain or ?? to hide from view
Two of the smaller windows need cranks, existing cranks are included, but will not keep windows completely closed and want to vibrate open about ¼”. FYI, these are not easy to find and maybe impossible, since everyone with a 1952—1955 is looking for them and they unlike the rest of the Airstream were not made to last! They were cast aluminum and gears strip.
Rear Access door needs rebuilt, extra aluminum included
The upper hinge on the door in door, is working but has a crack and should be replaced, if you can find one, I’ve been looking for over a year. Vintage Trailer Parts, might have some “someday”, am on waiting list. But it is still working, but trying to disclose everything.
Located in Las Vegas until 10/15/2016, then will be in Montana until May 2017
If buyer purchases and pays for trailer by 10/15, can provide free outside storage in Vegas until May 2017
Additional pictures upon request, can be viewed in Northwest Las Vegas anytime until 10/15
