2015 Ducted dual A/C 30 amp vs. 50 amp

So... I dove in yesterday at the Harrisburg RV show and purchased a 27' Eddie Bauer FB. It has solar and dual A/C's. I had really only intended one A/C so I could run them off of a dual generator set like I've seen so often... With two A/C's, I want to be able to turn one off so I'm only a "30 amp" hookup even though I'll have a 50 amp plug. Same goes for when I plug in at different parks.

Is there a simple way to disable one of the A/C's so that you can use a 30 amp service?

Yes, there is.
There is 1 thermostat for both a/c units- zone 1 and zone 2.
You simply set one of the zones to off on the thermostat.
You will also need a 50 amp plug to 30 amp plug adapter.

Is it too annoying to ask in this thread if anything inside the trailer is powered/functional while connected to the vehicle power? I have a substantial dual battery system in my Land Rover so I'm used to having power alternatives whether engine running or not such as my ARB freezer fridge working for weeks via the Odyssey 2150 battery, etc.

I was disappointed that there were no Classics or Land Yachts on the assembly line when I took the factory tour yesterday. I guess I'll never get to look inside one of those-

While looking at a new 28' with 50 amp, dual air set up, had similar concerns about only using 1 AC at a time...thanks for that update...while there, we had the opportunity to tour a 28' Land Yacht this past weekend at Bay Area Airstream Adventures, in Northern CA. Looks "very pretty", with some "interesting" features--for instance: 3 way fridge included, power adjustable dining table, nice sleek, cabinet finishes, and special lighting. What we found "odd" was the fridge seemed smaller then our 25' FC, and freezer access inside main fridge door, plus the fridge was hidden behind a cabinet door; you have to first open the cabinet door, then the fridge door, to get to the freezer door if you want ice...looks nice....hidden....I guess. Also, no oven in the unit, nor microwave....Not sure $140-$180K is worth all these "features" , but that's just me. Dealer said they make 1 per month, and buyers have been paying list price and adding expensive options....must be nice!

Gypsy...you will impress the folks at the RV store if you ask for a "dog bone" 50 to 30A adapter ...

You should have that capability, but check with your dealer. I found out over the last 3 "new" TV's (2 Tahoe's and an F150) that they generally only have the electrical hookup for brakes and lights...they leave the relay (fuse) out of the slot which will allow charging your trailer while driving, so you need to check that out. Annoying for sure, to get to a place and find out your batteries did not charge.

mefly- guess that would be fun! Like the 28' twin we saw with dual air, but also had a chance to operate the new 25' FC twin w/ ducted air....very quite compared to my 2014 FC...got me wondering if I really need to go to the 28' anyway. Sales guy and my wife are now thinking 27' would be enough but I like the separation of L shaped couch and separate dinette the 28'. I need to stay away from these new showrooms!

Are you saying that with the 2015 models, the Eddie Bauer is available with "ducted" single AC? When there are two units, do they still install what sounds like much quieter ducting?

Too many sales people seem to actually "know" very about the model changes and features, with accuracy.

I'm having trouble finding what the real changes/new options are for 2015 EB.

There must be a thread on here specific to that but I didn't come across it yet.

Ducted A/C standard
Airstream Logo Letter Set in Black Chrome on rear of trailer
Drawer Grabber catch upgrade from 3lbs to 5 lbs
USB charging stations added in the radio lockers and bedrooms
Memory foam pillow top mattress
Clarion Radio/Speaker package replaces sony.

At least that is according to a pdf outlining changes to 2015 Airstreams.

Where are these changes outlined for each model? Something you can link to?

I'm sure that you can find more detailed answers in other threads, but to answer your specific question, regardless of what capabilities your tow vehicle may have to generate and put out a lot of electrical power, the amount of power coming through the umbilical cord to the trailer is minimal, basically a trickle charge. Thus you will not be able to run the AC or other AC outlets in the trailer off power coming from the tow vehicle. If you trailer has an inverter, you will be able to get AC power via any inverter outlets you have, but still not for the AC or fridge.

If your tow vehicle has a 30 or 50 amp power outlet (I've never seen this by the way) then I suppose you could plug your shore power cord into the outlet on the tow vehicle and then you could run whatever back in the trailer. I'm not sure that this would be advisable while towing however since the shore power cord connection is not meant to be used while underway.

No memory foam on our 2015 EB mattress ...yes, to ducted air and quiet! Yes to Clarion and USB charging ports. Also there is now a 1000 watt inverter up from our 2013 EB.

Our '15 International Signature 27FB came with the dog bone adaptor (50 -> 30 amp), which was included in the external locker along with the anaconda.

I know you have said before that you got the first 2015 EB off the line. I wonder if you received your 2015 before the new mattresses arrived.

I have paperwork from Airstream that lists all of the changes for 2015 and the memory foam mattress is listed as a change over the 2014 for the EB 2015 model.

We pick up our Serenity next month, I will let you know if we get the new mattress that is listed as a change for the 2015 Serenity models.

Are you saying your 2015 does not have the memory foam top or that you do not want it to have that?

I inspected a 2015 this weekend and did not feel like the mattress was particularly feeling like memory foam on top but maybe it's just a thinner amount than often.

I don't really like the stuff on normal mattresses as it stays deformed when you roll around at night and it's always warmer. I've become spoiled by my 8" latex mattress in extra firm/zoned with 4" wool topper.

The charging ports are cute but certainly not absolutely necessary. Some other very basic things would be much more appreciated.

I quizzed the sales person and the head service guy about the ducted air. They don't know much.

What they have no idea about is this: With either a single or double roof unit, can any vents, front or rear, be shut off at the unit in order to have air coming out of just the front or rear vents?

For example, and the idea of purpose, with the non-ducted design, two roof units would allow you to choose from 3 combinations: front only, rear only, or both units running. This would allow just cooling the smaller front or rear section with closure between bedroom/bathroom, front area.

Or for quieter sleeping, have only the front unit on (I'm not so into having a machine running over my head)

I realize the ducting design provides a couple nice things:
-quieter all around
-no roof unit to run into if you're that tall
-visual aesthetics are obviously nice without the units in the ceiling, but then the ducts are all over instead which really breaks up the continuous metal look. (This one is obviously a personal preference)

However, sitting there, thinking about using in winter, or summer too.... the ducting is in the form of several channels throughout the ceiling. This displaces insulation that would be there instead...

Also, in winter, the heat will want to rise into that area which seems easier to escape.

It seems these cool duct ports ought to include covers. They could also be more consistently installed, snug against the ceiling....without gaps on one side on 20% of the ones I saw.

2015 Ducted dual A/C 30 amp vs. 50 amp

Ducted air is a win. Running A/C or heat pump in the far zone is a great option for super quiet heating & cooling, since the air comes out all of the vents (albeit not as strongly as in the zone of origin.

I had the dealer snug all of the vents properly as part of PDI. No gaps.
