There are no original Airstreams left, it seems, so I am going to document exactly what interior finishes are correct for those of you interested in an actual restoration as opposed to modifying the beauty of the Airstream design. Ours is original except for carpeting, curtains, upholstery, and bathroom floor (of course). We are going to go original, so here are reference materials I have rebuilt from my memory and from research.
Couches: gold brocade (Airstream has no record of original fabrics) - see pic, this is original from the factory
Original bathroom floor: Armstrong Corlon (now only available as a commercial product)
Original cabinets: Ash (I think) with a walnut finish
Original lantern: Humphrey, chocolate brown with a cylindrical shade, not spherical
Original carpeting: Gold shag!
Customization
I am morally opposed to this when optional because there are no more truly original campers, but some were necessary:
Bathroom floor: replaced
Paper towel holder: added above sink
Fridge: original was a Dometic with a walnut finish and gold/white interior. VERY fussy since 1976, pilot light would go out if trailer was not exactly level. Had to replace with a slightly larger model, which raised the height of the counter.
