Lotoflabor - 1963

Just bought our 63 Soverign a little less than a month ago. It was stripped out and being used for storage, I have about 80 manhours in it so far and am almost ready to install new floor, shell is setting on frame and I am welding some new outriggers and crossmembers in. Still suffering from sticker shock from the local Ace Hardware store on the price of elevator bolts and 3/4 inch plywood. If anybody has a cheap source for elevator bolts I would appreciate a heads up.

I have a lot of pictures but I guess the file size is to large, any idea about proper file sizes for posting pictures.

upallnight,
It's common to use the highest resolution for taking digital pictures but, that can make your file too large to post on here. What you need is a graphic program to resize the pictures..Any number of free programs available will do this for you..You could also re-program your digital camera to take what's termed "e-mail" pictures. These picture are suitable for sending over the internet via e-mail~! They work perfectly here as well..
I'm posting this one as an example~ it's file size is under 21kbits and the pixels is 360x270. Also, just as a reminder..try to use jpeg file~ that file works the best all around..

Fun isn't it? LOL

Fastenall, as Bobby pointed out, is a good source. Might also check your local yellow pages under hardware, fastners, screws. Probably a local companty that has them. I used a place called "threads of the South" I honestly don't remeber what I paid but it was a lot less the the local ACE was going to charge. Ace if great when you need 4-5 bolts. When your buying 50, don't go there.

Same with Plywood. HD probably would have given you a better price but looking for a distributor like Ply Mart would have saved you a few bucks.

Pictures need to be 640wx480h max. You can load larger to your www.airstreamphotos.com site and link if you like but the above size is what most computers will show as a full page. Also that size is a bit more user friendly and for thos stuck on dial up they will like you a whole lot better. That will make a picture around 70k with compression that is nice and clear for veiwing on the net.

Welcome to the fun!

Try uploading your photos to AirstreamPhotos.com it has a larger limit because is resizes them.

230 Hrs. $1150.43 for Supplies

Well I have 230 hrs in labor and $1150.43 in supplies in my project so far. I spent last Saturday night in the Silver Sucker. There is a lot of room for my wife and 5 granddaughters and myself. I left the SS at the campground for the rest of the summer, I'm paying $175 a month for the space so I might as well use it. I'll only be working on it on the weekends that I go up. It's about 150 miles to the campground so no running out to check things. I'll post some pictures on Monday after we get back.

Which bolts did you end up using? I assume plain finish/couse thread 1/4x1-1/4?

I used item #18 from Barnhill Bolt Co., Inc. They were 1/4 x 1 1/2 NC. I paid a little more for shipping because I thought I would need them before I did, but thats usually the way I do things, get it in a hurry then let it sit for a week. I ordered 200 and used nearly all of them. In the wall channel I used 1/4 x 1 1/2 NC grade five hex bolts. In the places where the PO had cut the channel or it was broke from movement I braced it with 1/8 x 1 1/2 flat strap then drilled through the strap to bolt it.

The web site for Barnhill is www.barnhillbolt.com , they are in Albuquerque so they are fairly close to you and I for shipping.

If you make it to Albuquerque you can save on the shipping, they run 14.89 per 100.

I'm sorry I gave you an incomplete Item Number on the bolts. The following link is for the bolts.

One more question - what kind of bolts did you use? Also what does NC mean?

I looked up the Barnhill web site - I assume they are the plain steel - 14.89/box?

Thanks again

Ken

I used the plain steel elevator bolts, NC is National Course threads, I think about 18 or 20 threads per inch, I can't remember. My memory is really starting to go.

welp - when I asked what kind of bolts - I really meant nuts - regular nuts with lock washers or nylocks?
