Best Gay Places to Stay
I would love to hear where you all enjoy staying. My husband and I plan to start full-timing in 2017. I'm retired and he is a RN planning to do travel nursing. We live in Baltimore, MD but want to travel throughout the country and Canada. It would be nice to hear about the great gay rv resorts everyone has enjoyed.
We love Ptown and go up there fairly often. Coastal Acres is where we usually camp and this past year the resort started with new ownership and the improvements are obvious. First of all, you can finally book online! Before, you had to do everything through snail mail! Anyway, it is not cheap but is definitely the closest campgrounds to the center of Provincetown, MA. They also do not have full hookups (electric and water only), but do provide a service to dump your tanks. ( http://www.coastalacresprovincetown.com)
Before Trump, I really thought gay "havens" would start to diminish. Well it looks like his forces are going to try and push back the progress we have made so "havens" are not going away. It's scary looking forward under his administration but we know how to persevere! Let's hope we only have to endure 4 years.
Anyone going to DC on January 21st? We'll be there!
Anyway, sorry for the political thoughts. Please let me know where you enjoy staying the most (can be more than one!), and why you love it so much.
Happy Holidays!

Re-introduction:Friends of Dorothy Official Intro Thread
Dear Friends of Dorothy,
Six years ago my husband Larry introduced us here in the Friends of Dorothy Official Intro Thread ( see post #22 with photos).
Since then our tri-color corgi Tasha had a ruptured disc and made a full recovery after her laminectomy surgery in 2013.
We celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary this past July (we've been together for 46 years)!
We are sad to announce the passing of our red and white corgi Mac earlier this week, who was just a month away from his 14th birthday.
After 10 years of enjoying camping with our 2007 23' Airstream Safari, our 70-year-old bodies are telling us that the next adventures will be more easily obtained by hopping into a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, so we are preparing our trailer and F-250 truck (with very low mileage) for sale.
Before we post the ad on AirForums' Airstream Classifieds, we invite you to take a look at our trailer as it was prepped and documented on this summer's History Safari Express posts, starting with " Our 2007 23' Airstream Safari 10th Year Anniversary and Review."
BTW, I noticed that there were no new introductions here this year and I hope it is not due to the current social/political climate. If so, I encourage others to introduce or re-introduce yourselves with updates, knowing that you have the support of the moderators who enforce AirForums' Community Rules as seen in post #16 of this thread.
Thank you,
Bill

I'm sad for you on two levels. Losing a beloved pet is tough. We lost two within the last year.
Having to give up a nice airstream is sad as well. I hear you, I will hit 70 at the end of this year, and I can only hope to stay healthy enough to keep using our AS.
Don't be afraid to post and put in pictures of your camping adventures in the future elsewhere on the forums, or contribute to discussions with your knowledge and experiences.

Its always great to hear other Airstream owners experiences around the country. However, very sorry to hear about the loss of pets owned by Silvergate and RMKrum. They do make great travel companions and for most of us, they are as much family as any child.
Retirement I suppose, is like starting a new job. Its exciting when you start but just like the job, you reach a point where its time to make a change. For Airstream owners its almost a second retirement of moving to a stationary lifestyle. While this is a huge change for the owners, its an opportunity for the newly retired to take these Airstreams and continue the journeys Wally promoted back in the 1950's. I am one of those who bought an exceptionally maintained Airstream purchased new by a Doctor in NC. Even after he was unable to drive it due to being on kidney dialysis, he still continued to visit the motorhome to drink coffee and watch TV while it was in a warehouse. It took the family 2 years to sell after his death because it was so much apart of his life in his later years.
In my second year of ownership I took the leap and went fulltime. Its now been over a year living on the Airstream and I have not looked back!! Over the past year I have traveled from NC to Montana, to Michigan, to Florida, then back to Michigan where I workcamped at Campit Resort near Saugatuck on Lake Michigan. It was a great experience and made many new friends and met other Airstream owners along the way. Funny thing is none of them belonged to the Wally Byam Airstream Club but all knew about the FOD.
First I want to pitch Saugatuck, MI, its a great place to visit and the campground can handle any size rig with full hook ups. Rates are cheaper on weekdays but special events are each weekend all summer. They get lots of tent campers and cabin renters from Chicago and its interesting to hear comments when they see an Airstream. When looking at mine (35.5' long) many say its bigger than their apartment in Chicago...haha. Others are shocked that I have a washer dryer, and even more are amazed at how it can pull a Jeep!
As of today I am putting together a 3500 mile trip that's part business, part personal and part sightseeing. Currently in Atlanta dealing with elderly parents in a nursing home. Driving Jeep back to Michigan on Tuesday to pack the Airstream and say my good-bys to friends. From there to Colorado Springs where the Airstream will get a new satellite dish and I take the Jeep to Montana to empty a storage unit and bring stuff back to CO. From there the Airstream and Jeep will travel to Kansas City for visit with friends, then back to Atlanta by 9/20 to finish working on my folks personal affairs. In Georgia it will be parked at the Jackson Lake Marina RV park which is south of Atlanta off I75. Wonderful place open year round. Highly recommended if you want quite and solitude. Last part of trip will be back to Florida where....hopefully.....I will be working at the Key West Naval Base Campground for winter season as a Manager/Host. Had my interview last Wednesday and it went well, should know more next week with official job offer. Wish I could invite all of you to Key West for a vacation but the Navy does not allow anyone in without a military ID card. Needless to say, spending October to May in Key West will be a true experience and getting to know the locals.
So...that's my intro and update. Hope all have great travels planned and I will keep everyone posted. Hopefully I can make it to the 2018 FOD rally.

Thanks for the update.
So glad that you are using the Airstream in a manner that would make the previous owner proud.
I went to Western Michigan in the late 60's and Saugatuck was one of our favorite places on Lake Michigan to go.

Hey ya’ll!
As soon-to-be (this Friday) AS owners we’re happy to just now discover this tread. It reflects an openesss to all and represents significant progress in my lifetime. Thank you for that - these days I’m struggling to find something good in our lives! (Don’t know who Dorothy is, but given the opportunity, I’d be pleased to be her friend.)

We tow the 1964 Globetrotter with a Tundra, but I have a '68 Dodge Dart convertible that I'd love to tow with. Our first ever camping trip was Casini ranch last year, and we are both now hooked. We met such cool people and loved the community feeling of camping in a group and look forward to doing more. Who else is in CA?

Hi guys, here in California too. I tow my Airstream with a Tundra, as well. Had the Airstream for 11 years now, camping mostly in California. I am in the process of planning a cross country tour for next year. Anything that I may help you with, I am very glad to do so. Mike

Mike and Adam, Patti and I have been Airstreamers (sp) for 11 years now. We live in San Diego, and have camped all over California. If you ever head out this was, I would be very glad to share camping places and sites. Starting next May, we are heading out on a five month tour and will be going from San Diego to Bar Harbor Maine, and back. If you men have any suggestions for places to stay, I am all ears! LOL! (eyes). Best regards, Mike

Hey guys. My name is Bobby (white hair) and my partner is Frank. We have been together for 5 years. We have 4 furry children (3 dogs and a cat). We just purchased a 1961 Airstream Safari. We are doing some upgrades to it right now, so hopefully, we will be up and running soon. Looking forward to meeting new friends in the near future.

That is a super looking senior Airstream. I love the pink appliances.
Congratulations on your new baby. May you have safe travels and many great Airstream Adventures with her.

Anyone other FODs full timing?
Hi All. I returned to the States in June after 12 years in Asia (long story), bought Tula (27FB Safari) last month, and am now a full-time airstream pilot. Loving this adventure so far! Just wondering if there are any others out there full timing?
