If you want to drive a bit further west, Quartzsite, AZ offers BLM permits, good from September 15 to April 15...the permits are $180, and include access to water, a dump station, dumpsters,(and for the brave-pit toilets...I recommend early morning)...do the math, it's $0.85 per day. solar or a generator are really handy...no hook-ups, but propane and provisions are nearby...if you can park it, it's your campsite(none are designated or reserved)...been doing this for the last 6 winters. I would suggest a southern location within the BLM long term areas, as it gets a bit crowded during Jan-Feb for the shows(big tent rv, classic car, and a general gem-mineral...then, there are the flea markets...lots of history to enjoy, and 4WD helps find some of these gems...m
OOPS, forgot to mention that 14 day permits are $40 with access to water/dump, and there are several 14 day limit free areas, but no access
to water/dump, but most of the RV parks in town will sell you those services(and I think there are about 80 RV parks)...m

- Lockhart where we can put together a BBQ tour.
- North Texas or Southern OK, where it's a little more likely that some of our summer rally folks can make it.

Thoughts?

I think we will be up for that!

We would definitely be interested and participate. The further south the more desirable for us primarily because of better odds of nicer weather. But we would consider traveling to north TX if that's the location of choice.

I don't want to winterize my new trailer this winter! I am working on convincing Marky that we really need to head south. The I-10 corridor is very appealing. Who knows where we'll be Feb 23rd, but I like the idea!

My vote for FOD rally, we should be good with President's Weekend. East Texas or Southern Oklahoma is best for us. John

Ummm... President's Day is Monday, 18 Feb 2013..if you are looking for a long weekend, Presidnet's Day weekend would be the weekend of Saturday, 16 Feb 2013.

A TX rally would be easier for us, depending on where it is ... but we have an annual 4CU rally on President's Day weekend (unless the the hosts the date for 2013)... :-(

Oops, apparently calendar reading isn't my strong suit.

I've officially started planning on this and started a thread for it:

1020 miles 18 hrs for us. We are most likely out . :-( The other kicker is we are not going to make it to Hot Springs this year. Oops! Now that's out if the bag too! I was hoping this would work out, I love Texas , and Scott's never been. We can do 800-850 miles, no problem. Anything over that starts to be a two day travel. I have been working with Scott on teaching him to drive with the trailer. He's doing great. Helps having a seconded driver. :-) for those long trips.

Kevin - saw your post about you and your partner restoring a Dodge D100. How cool! I owned a 54 dodge c1 B6 pickup for quite a while. It was a frame off resto and was featured in Classic Trucks magazine. I loved that truck. Sold it a few years ago and still miss it. Good luck with your project! Would love to see pictures.

Where is that? We were talking about a trip to FL in January. This is not a "FOD" http://www.airforums.com/forums/show...4&goto=newpost but there are FOD people that are going. It is a FOD friendly group. Something to think about. We also have springstream in the spring. A lot of the same friendly people will be there. Check out the forum. It's always a great time.

I had no idea what "Friends of Dorothy" meant, until today. And my upbringing has been far from sheltered, my circle of friends is wide and varied. I grew up in Europe, where I suspect this term isn't as widely known.

Anyways, just dropping in to say how glad I am how inclusive the AS community is.

We looked it up. We would be down for that. Let me know. I have another friend here in town with an airstream, I know he would be down too.

Andy and Myrtle, I didn't know either until a year or two ago when I looked it up. Attitudes are changing fast and it is about time.

Let us know. It's warm there now. Think we are heading to St. Augustine next week or so. We will still be down for Jupiter FL. We are going to be in the 70s next week and I feel spring fever coming on. That means camping! :-)
