Most all BMW's have vinyl seats as well as Mercedes. That would be best option. In my business which is full serve car wash and auto detailing. Those hold up best compare to any others. Most owners of those cars don't even know they are vinyl. It's great when they come in wash and ask what they need to put on their leather to take care of them, Then I show them it's vinyl. Ha. I also explain they are much better off with the vinyl.

How does the vinyl stand up to the claws of larger dogs? Is there any difference between the vinyl and leather? My Volvo has leather, which stands up very well to the pups.

Vinyl stands up great with the claws. The vinyl doesn't scratch like leather. You can also scrub them clean. Where the leather you can clean but have to be very careful that you don't scrub the dye off. Vinyl seems to have the color all the way through. In my Mercedes I have vinyl but also have a vinyl cover that goes over the back seat that protects the seats. I have two goldens and that cover is great for trapping little gravel, dirt etc.. I will take a pic of that cover. It's from I think a 2005 BMW 5 series. I use it in my little c 300. The covers they make now are a canvas that seems to absorb odor.

Good to know. I've always been leery of vinyl because I remember the stuff that was used in cars of the 60's and 70's, which never seemed to stand up very well.

I think the vinyl in the American cars was not so good. My old '64 Pontiac Bonneville had vinyl that was badly cracked. Interestingly, my dad's old mercedes (1958 220s), had red leather that was immaculate. It seems that his father, who owned it first, regularly cleaned the leather and treated it with some kind of conditioner. I use cleaners and conditioners by Lexol on my car leather and on my motorcycle leathers.

Umm... considering the thread topic, is anyone surprised we know about good leather care products?

LOL... that is funny

I have used good old fashioned saddle soap on my cars, furniture, shoes etc for years it is the best cleaner and conditioner IMO.

Hey just thinking. What about a FJ cruiser? Rubber floors for easy clean up for dogs. Toyota product which is great. Just a thought.
