Company Leash

So after my last trip in my Airstream, and the office trying to find me the IT department hunted down my AS and installed a company phone it it :-( I think I have the only AS that has a corporate phone system tied to the office in it now. How can I destroy it. It seems to work everywhere.

Ha! Don't mess with the IT department -- it's liable to self-destruct if you mess with it!

I promise if you don't feed it internet service, it won't ring.

Were they too cheap to get you a crackberry? I work from home, and one of our sites has IP telephony, but they chose to give me a VZW crackberry instead of an IP phone. Then again, I'm mostly a programmerGeek, so I don't do that much phone time.

Do they provide the wireless Internet connection, too? What are you using?

Don't ever answer it. If you're out fishing or hiking you won't hear it ring anyway. BTW - if its an office phone, it will have a Do Not Disturb function. Use it.

I think I have a great Idea. Whenever you reach a campground,DON'T PLUG INTO A PHONE LINE>Simple as that. IF ya have a crackenberry TURN IT OFF> Your time is your time NOT THE COMPANY'S. Unless you are on COMPANY BUSINESS and are gettin paid.
Unless you own the company and all that is your responsibility.

I'm not sure how it works, I know there is a thing on the roof, and even with no power hooked up and no anything hooked up to the airstream its just on and works. They did a good job making sure I won't disable it. Unfortunately I am the owner of the company and they have orders that it is only to be used if the world is falling apart around them. I chose to not own a cell phone because it was abused so I make my assistant cary a cell phone and screen all calls to me, he is usually with me but not when I'm on the road. Apparently on my last trip the fiber connection to the office was cut and panic set in, they were like deer in headlights.. They thought it was a database issue and corrupted the database trying to "fix" it.. sigh....

Hmmmm...doesn't the presence of a business phone technically qualify your AS as a "home office"?...if so, can't you now write off your coach?...AND!... if that phone rings and you answer it in between beers, can't you chalk it up as a business trip?... Hey, can you claim standard mileage rate on both the car AND the trailer?...I think I'm onto something here this could actually become a profit center for you! I want in...how do I get a phone from them installed? Hahaha

My thoughts, exactly. Looks like a nice tax deduction to me.

We had a CPA who wanted us to write off our vacations in the RV on the claim that we were conferring with other RV park owners. Ugh! We decided against that one.
