Searching for a 2017 Classic

We are getting ready to purchase a 2017 Classic 30. Thought we were going for a 27FB, but the Classic is much more like a home. We will be living in it for 3-4 months a year.

In previous posts I have seen that we should "expect" to negotiate a 20% off MSRP...Did any of the recent purchasers obtain a 20% discount? Am I expecting too much?

We live in Massachusetts. Our nearest dealer is in NH...we have no problem driving 4 or 5 hours to shop. Any suggestions???

Many Thanks
Joellen

See you're right next to where I grew up, lots have changed since i lived there...

I think 20% on such a high demand rig might be asking to much, but i say that because here in California the inventory get's sold right away, none are unspoken for, could be different in NH?

We've had our for 2 weeks now, and besides a few minor bugs, it's awesome, good luck with yours.

Good point Bud. We paid cash for our first Airstream and got 25% off. Traded two years later and we maybe got 12% off on their most popular model, maybe less than 12% because who knows what your trade is actually worth? Unless you sell it yourself, then go to the dealer.

Joellen, if you haven't already done so you should look at RVTrader.com and put in the perameters for your location and search. A quick look a few minutes ago revealed there are Classics out there. Not sure of your drive time from MA to NJ, but Colonial Airstream in Lakewood, NJ has several new 2017 Classics advertised.

I live in a town next to yours. I'm buying mine at Colonial AS in NJ. They have MUCH more buying power than that dealer in NH and hence better pricing and availability. Additionally they have a proven service department.
The only other "nearby" option is RVone in Albany NY. They are primarily an on-line dealer with "wholesale" pricing. They are fairly new at selling Airstreams and their staff knowledge and service is less than desirable in my opinion. I've bought a "SOB" trailer from them before but as I've said, it will be Colonial AS for my Airstream. "YMMV"!

2017 Classic

Colonial Airstream is an excellent place to buy your unit. I bought my 2007 25'Classic new there and my daughter just purchased a 2014 Airstream bunkhouse from Patrick at Colonial. Smooth transaction in all respects and they have one of the largest inventories in the U.S.

We just got approx 25% off of our 2016 Classic J at Airstream of Chicago - though it was at the end of model year. Our first TT and we got a Ford F 350 diesel to tow it. Have had fun driving the truck but have yet to take it out on trial runs but intend to soon - personally I wd jump at a 2016 if any are still available - doubtful you can get a bargain on one - at least for now.

Its complicated, but I was in a similar business to Airstream and if the dealers are set up as ours were it's not legal to offer one dealer a lower price than another from the factory. They should all pay the same amount. That said, there can be volume targets with incentives OR some high volume dealers can and often do operate on lower margins than others.

I find that trading is a "fun" way to go. The dealer marks the new trailer down to a point where he thinks you'll be interested and then offers you "wholesale" on yours and the games begin. Which I miss from my working years, so do it now with new trailers and trucks. The most important word in this process from our perspective as buyers is NO. Simply say no and see what happens.

Good luck.

Bud

Wife and I got 18% off of a 30' 2017 FC. I thought that was fair because I want the dealer to stay in business and the sales person works off of commission. Everyone has to eat ;-)

Classic 30's are not hard to come by. And you don't have to get held up on the price.

Big dealerships have lots of inventory and want/need to move it - they start paying the flooring when it leaves the factory. Small dealerships have a little inventory and need to squeeze the last penny out of the deal. Betting the top 10 Airstream dealers sell 75% of the total production - or more. Monaco used to figure it was 8% moved 75%.

Show up at one of the dealerships that has what you want, make it clear that you are serious (you have the money and are ready to buy, now) and make them an offer (after going over the unit in question with a microscope and notepad) - probably a little on the low side (25% - you'll take 20%). Salesperson will clutch his/her chest and fall to the floor; they go to classes to learn how to jerk people around.

You sit calmly and say, 'are we doing this or not?'.

Getting ready to post our 2015 Classic for sell.

Joellen,
My wife and I, due to health reasons, are getting ready to post our 2015 30' Classic in the classifieds.
This AS has been in a conditioned garage, used very little and has many extras installed from the dealership here in Denver when purchased.
All bugs have been worked out at the factory. Still some warranty left.
Would welcome a call from you if this unit would be of interest to you.
Save big and we will pay your fuel cost to take possession of this must see Classic.
P.S. Will be posting it tonight, but if you want to discuss prior to others seeing the ad, please give us a call. Good luck with your quest!
Malcolm and Ursula

25% off? I think that's the most I've heard off on a Classic. So you got it for about $102K?

We tow with a 2016 Ram 2500HD Cummins.
In my opinion, the least size TV to safely tow a Classic. But, more importantly, to stop a RV of this size going down grades we have in the Rocky Mountains.
