Replacing an overhead bulb

Can anyone tell me how to remove the cover on an overhead light fixture? I have a 2016 classic with a burned out bulb but I can't see how to remove to cover so that I can replace the bulb.

Go to 2:00 in the video link and watch. You need a small blade screwdriver or I use the knife edge on a leatherman to pry the inner ring loose. I got good at it after a while as I upgraded all my lights to LED. If yours is a 2016 it might already be LED.

I'm pretty sure the entire fixture will need to be replaced. Most of those are held in the ceiling by a pair of stiff springs, so be careful when you remove it.

Actually, this is pretty simple. Grasp the stainless steel outer surround, and give it a 1/4 turn to your left and pull down. This will release the bezel. You'll find some small metal screws (I think there are 3 of them). Use a small Philips screwdriver and unscrew the fixture. It'll now pull down. You'll see that Airstream has used crimp fasteners. Check and make sure that you're getting 12V to that fixture BEFORE you cut the wires (black is positive, white is ground). Just in case it's a wiring issue. If you're getting 12v, then you'll just replace the fixture. Reverse process to install.

You are still under warranty so Airstream will send you (through your dealer) the entire light unit for replacement, not just the LED. So you grasp the outer bezel ring and pull down firmly and slowly down until one side of the two mousetrap-like spring bars release. You'll then need to cut and connect two wires with crimp connectors or similar. Here's a picture of what you dealer will send - it gives an indication of the spring mechanism.

I too think it is crazy to have to replace the whole light fixture, but AS and the dealer would only send the entire fixture, saying that the LED can't (practically) be replaced alone on the newer models. Joe

Since LEDs are supposed to last 'forever', I guess the new fixtures have permanently mounted LED circuit boards. Kinda makes sense.

From my view, I'm glad I have the old halogen fixtures where I can replace bulbs with LEDs fairly easily.

Confucius said something about a "picture being worth 10,000 words." The OP has a Classic. The Classic has a different ceiling light fixture. Here's what it looks like. To remove it: twist the stainless steel bezel to the left 1/4 turn. The bezel will come off. There are 3 screws holding the fixture to the ceiling. Airstream will replace the light as your trailer is under warranty. As I said earlier, I'd use a multi-tester to make sure you don't have a wiring issue.
