Question about the foldout table

This is a question about the foldout table with the extension. The extensions seems to be held in place with a "U" shaped pin (see picture). This pin looks doesn't seem to do the job too well. Every time I pull out the table, the extension slides down and hits the floor.

The "U" shaped pin just seems a bit flimsy to me. Do you have the same problem as I have when pulling this table out?

I apreciate your help. Thank you!

No, but you could try either compressing or expanding the "U" so it has a more friction fit.

That appears to be the same kind of pin that is on the table in our 1987 Sovereign. Our extension is hinged and folds over, it works fine although the spring action is a little sticky.

Thanks Rich, I'll give that a try next time we take the trailer out.

But...I paid a lot of money for this trailer. It irks me that I have to pinch this cheap "U" thingy so the extension doesn't slide out.

And thanks for the info msmcv51. So in 26 years, Airstream couldn't find a better "U"?

Any other suggestions, comments etc?

Mine works OK. I had to replace the grommet (warranty) at one point because it fell out and disappeared.

The clip you are showing stops the table from folding out to full size when stowed.

I am thinking the extension you are talking about is the part that slides out to lengthen the support where the table top folds out and lays on?

In our '92 the extension would always extend as we opened the table. It is a simple household cabinet feature so you could try another one of the same or try a different style or try two of them?

The clip is very easy to bend/break when folding the table into the closed/recessed position. Since the table will slide laterally when open this is easy to overlook.

Those plastic grommets are designed as a cash generating device for dealers. Spares should be on hand for these as well as other items like the awning clips etc.

If we towed a second trailer for spare parts.........

I think the clips are really cheap for this expensive of a unit. Airstream resolved this issue in the 2015 model year by only making a single model of the Classic and it lacks the table.

Which model is it? The 27 and 31 both lack the table now, only the 30 has one. I have not found a 2015 brochure on their site yet.

My '76 had the same clip and my '82 does too! They have got a lot of use from that design.

Lots of good information here.

But bottom line, when I pull out the table, some part of the extension always falls down and hits the floor. Not sure if it's the actual extended table, or the part that supports the extended table. I guess I have to look at it more carefully next time. But it's unfortunate because once it slips down, I always have to grab it with with my fingers to push it up as I pull the table out. And unfortunately, it means I usually end up pinching or smashing my fingers in the process.

Exactly the same thing happened with us and our '92. It was the extension part, not the table top. The attached latch image might work on the table? I can't look at our '92 since we gave it to our son.

That latch is called a sash latch or table leaf latch. You can get them from most cabinet hardware companies online.
