New Trailer - 2011

We bit the bullet and purchased a new 30' Classic with 2 AC and the over/microwave combo and praline color. It is close to our ideal trailer. The missing part was we preferred no carpet, this one has carpet by the couch.

Also sprung for the ProPride hitch, having it shipped to the dealer who will install it. I could have installed it myself but didn't want to mess with it after driving 1,000 miles to pick it up.

After using our 25' Safari 6 sleeper for the last 4 years we developed a pretty clear idea of what we liked and don't like.

A couple of simple emails with a large Florida AS dealer quickly established a very competitive price and a deal was done. It is off to Florida Memorial Day weekend to pick up the new trailer. Needless to say we are very excited.

I would have preferred to purchase in Texas but dealers were not competitve on price. For example, we took a day off work to visit a central Texas AS dealer to look at a late mode 30' Classic that I would describe as rough condidtion for its age, after a little haggling, their firm price was more that I paid for a new/untitled unit. And they did not even send us a follow up email thanking us for visiting their dealership.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Congrats on getting your new baby. I'll bet that y'all are super excited. I know that I would be. Make sure that you bring your camera so that you can take lots of baby pictures and post some here on the Forums so that we can share in the excitement.

I sure would like to know which one is the "central Texas AS dealer", so I would know not to go there. You could PM me if you don't want to publish the info here. Thanks.

Sometimes it is good to give the local dealer a second chance, nice to have that local relationship. Sometimes they will not budge. We found the best price on our trailer (in Florida), then took it with actual evidence to the local dealer who matched it.

Congratulations on the new trailer, the Classic is a beauty.

John,
Sounds like you have a winner there! We just took the plant tour two weeks ago, and saw one in production. Nice cabinetry inside. I'd love to know more about how your ProPride installs and hauls. Congratulations on a wonderful new rolling home. We look forward to inside and outside pictures.

Thanks for the nice comments. Yes pictures will be forthcoming!

To answer some of the questions and points raised so far.
Yes I did go to another Texas dealer with the Florida quote and was told they could not come close to that price although their unit was almost identical. They told me that the unit I was buying was probably used and/or misrepresented as to model year. Since the sales contract I signed was very specific, I quickly discounted their response.

Camper Clinic II in Buda was visited by us. I believe there was another thread about CC a while back.

We ended up purchasing from Bates in Florida, so far very smooth and accomodating,
Michael Dautel is the sales dude.

The painful task of emptying the old trailer is complete. Items were sorted into 2 piles, one for loading into the truck for the trip to pick up the new trailer and the other pile to wait for the new trailer. We were both amazed at the amount of stuff in the trailer, although we made sure there was always empty space. We will miss the pull out pantry.

Went by a local sign store and ordered new red numbers for the new trailer. The original set was 4 individual letters will peel off backing. They were a slow pain to put on. The new ones are all on one sheet. Put it on, smooth it out and pull off the backing paper, sounds much easier.

Now finish cleaning the old trailer so we can put her on the market.

John,
I did the SAME thing with our WBCCI numbers. I had a local shop make me three sets because I knew I'd screw up the first one. All went well, however, so I have a spare. Great idea!

Congrats on the new trailer! I'm sure you'll be very happy with her.

I too have a personal experience with CCII. There is a thread about them. I guess they have someone buying from them. They are still there.

Picked up the new trailer last Thursday from Bates. Walk thru was very thorough. We found a couple of small items that were quickly addressed. We spent the night at the RV park next door and found one more problem. The trailer went back to Bates and it was resolved. I found Bates very easy to work with from sales thru pick up. I felt they were committed to making sure we were satisfied and the trailer was in perfect condition. We did have them add a TV mount in the bedroom and were satisfied with that.

When we arrived the prep team was working on the outside, so I asked what they used to clean the outside. They use WD40 and foam glass cleaner on most of the outside, and use only WD40 on the front. They swear that it protects and makes it easier to clean bugs from the front. So I plan on giving it a try.

We did experience a problem Thursday night deploying the awning. We weren't used to a center pole and inserted it incorrectly and down it came right on one of the new Zip Dee chairs, resulting in a hole in the chair! Bates was kind enough to help us resolve that issue the next day.

We also had the Pro Pride hitch installed on the new trailer. There was a mix up with Pro Pride over the delivery, but Sean was quick to resolve the issue. Bates did a great job installing the hitch with the trailer sitting very level. I can't personally comment on the ease/difficulty of installation, but the installer said this was his 7th Pro Pride and they are not hard to install as long as you follow instructions and work each subsection.

Our experience with the hitch is that so far it is easier and faster to hitch and unhitch than the Reese on our other trailer. It will take some adjustments and experience to dial in the right tension. I was very impressed with Sean's customer service and am certail he will provide addtional assistance if requested.

We love the new trailer, and know it will take some use and experimentation to get things stored the way we like, already there have been several trips to Target, Walmart and Lowes for small organization items.
Oh and also a new 32" TV so now there are 3 TVs in the trailer!
