One end cushion is contoured like a big letter "D" The other side next to the chair storage credenza is squared on both sides. Hmmmm. Mine was irregular, the new back cushions seem to be the same as each other whereas my short side was shorter still. Certainly worth a try! You may be right about that fitting. never thought of that! We knew it was an odd way to design the dinette bed but never actually had anyone sleep there. I set it up for my grandsons and they got spooked by the June bugs bouncing off their heads at the campfire and went in the house.

Sleepable Solution

Having started this thread and being appreciative of everyone's thoughts, I remain convinced that AS got a bit too fancy with the table and cushions, without adequate communication between design and building folks.

That aside, via a PM from a Forum member there is, for our unit at least, a workable solution. Similar to some of the earlier suggestions, it goes like this. Facing the table, take the left seat cushion and turn it upside down with the not so thick portion on the table. The right seat cushion is left in place and the two back cushions are "squeezed" into the middle space. The slightly lower portion on the right side can be adjusted with foam or a folded blanket.

While not a perfect solution, it creates an adequate sleeping space.

You can't switch the cushions because the are shaped specifically to the curved walls. The only way that would be possible is to turn them upside down as well. I ain't sleeping' on that!

Judging by the age of this no one has a good solution. The brochure says my 27 Classic sleeps 6 but I don't know how on the dinette table platform. We have tried the cushions every which way yet there is no way I would sleep on that mess. The only answer appears to be two custom made seat cushions that eliminate the bumps. For what we pay for these things I expected better thought out upholstery.

Same issue, somewhat with my 2008 Classic 25fb but my cushions don't have the rolled tops but are flat. There is still a hump in the middle. Luckily we never have more than 3 traveling so I just sleep on the side couch when our daughter accompanies us.

Airstream could've designed this better. They should've made the street under dinette storage door shorter so a support could be mounted on the dinette frame. The other side doesn't have a storage door and could accept a support then cut the table smaller. I think the dinette table is too wide as it is now.

The dinette table is too wide and the bolsters behind the seat cushions serve no purpose but to take up the excessive width the designers dropped this dinette into. It all looks wonderful in the showroom but is functionally a poor design, decent dinette but poor lounger and sleeper.

Unfortunately all mid-size Airstreams, 25-26-27, and their most popular models now come only with this front or rear dinette arrangement. The front sofa/convertible bed with side table(s) has been abandoned.

All is not entirely lost because we are a creative bunch. Many, many of us have reconfigured our Airstreams to our own individual needs. It is fun to research here and see the clever, well-done things Airstreamers have some up with.

We needed a trailer-for-two so set it up with recliners and carry a collapsible cot to set between them when a grandchild comes to visit. I have seen some sofas (including the one in the new Classic) and theatre style seating that look interesting as well.
