Co-Star Carbon no code detector beeping

I just went out to the trailer to bring groceries and dirty clothes in the house.
The carbon monoxide detector on the bedroom wall was beeping.
I assumed it needed a battery.
I put an Energizer 9 volt in with a 12/2019 expiration date.
It still beeps.
I see a notice on the back giving a specific Duracell model number and a Gild Peak model number.
Surely you don't have to only use those 2 specific batteries?
I have never seen any device require a particular brand of battery.
How important is this carbon monoxide detector if I never use the furnace anyway?

I'm not an expert, but I've never heard of a device that requires specific brands of battery, although the type of battery (e.g., lithium vs alkaline, rechargeable vs non- rechargeable, etc.) could be a device requirement. I also assume any device that can use propane could generate CO. Wouldn't this include the stove, oven, fridge, water heater and furnace?

If I were in your shoes, I would first check the manual and/or website, and/or call their customer service for advice. If that leads nowhere, I would buy a new CO detector and see if it also gives you a warning. I've had a new detector go bad after just a few months. You dont want to wake up dead one day as a result of CO poisoning.

I thought it was odd, but it says right there on the thing use only Duracell part number #### or Gold Peak part number ####.
Have never used the cook top-
No oven- Convection microwave-
Refrigerator runs on propane while traveling. I removed the carbon monoxide detector and took it in the house. Same thing- Beeps when not even in the trailer-
Water heater is run on electric.
Haven't used the furnace in several years-
I don't smell anything. You kn ow they add that sulfur/rotten egg smell to odorless propane.
I might check into this more, but not right at the moment.

OK.
None of Quantum Groups phone numbers are working and the website hasn't been updated since 2013 or 2014.
Are they out of business?

It isn't tied into the 12 volt system.
It has a 9 volt battery.
I have decided the device is no good and I cannot get in touch with the company.
They may no longer exist, or have reincorporated with a different phone number and no website...
I called Airstream. The girl I spoke with said I could buy the least expensive one at Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot and all would be OK.

It may also beep if it has reached its lifespan. There should be an expiration date on it.

The good news is they are cheap and readily available.

Exactly, nothing special about the CO or smoke detectors in Airstreams. They are pretty cheap models.

I've replaced my smoke detector with a dual sensor model and the CO detector with one that has a more sophisticated display. Same as I have in my house.

The expiration date indicates when the unit should be replaced even if it hasn't failed yet. Since it beeps outside the trailer, and you put in a fresh battery, clearly it should be replaced. By the way, carbon monoxide is odorless, and is created when a fuel is burned with insufficient oxygen available. You won't necessarily smell propane when CO is being generated.

The only appliance in the trailer that occasionally uses propane is the refrigerator while traveling. In camp it runs on electric.
We were home.
The refrigerator was off.
We'll get a new one at Walmart next trip which may be Saturday.
I'm sure all will be OK till then.
Trailer is parked till Friday afternoon.

I bought a new one for $18 at Walmart, but it is smaller and rectangular instead of round.
I wonder if the round one has left any markings on the wall.
We'll find out in a campground Saturday morning.
I was tempted just to do without, but it might actually be a good idea.
My wife had suggested taking the one from the house and putting in the trailer.
No...
Then we wouldn't have one in the house...

OK...
The new one has a green light that flashes every minute or so.
That is annoying.
It has "operate" printed on it where the green light is.

My wife thinks the old carbon monoxide detector had a light that flashed periodically, too.
At first I thought there was a lightning bug in the trailer.

What does the directions say about the flashing light and is it important?

Perhaps a small piece of electrical tape to cover the offending light. I used this solution on my tow vehicle check engine light, problem solved.
