2016 Classic questions, options, etc

Finally, after at least three years of looking/studying/dreaming, we have decided on the 2016 Classic; we even know which bed and decor we want. We do have a few remaining questions that have so far evaded our searches through various websites and threads on the Forum. Asking now for info from the best source (the Forum):

1. Solar - have seen a good bit of criticism on the std AS solar; believe it is std on 2016; should we just plan on upgrading after purchase?

2. Inverter - ditto

3. Power awning - we prefer to not have a power awning; understand full awning package std on the 2016 Classic. Is the power awning std as well?

4. Does anyone have a list of options available on the 2016 Classic.

5. Does anyone know what discount from listed price we should expect for the 2016 Classic?

BTW - One reason for all these questions is that a new 2016 Classic has arrived at our local AS dealer, but the "sticker" has not arrived (the dealer told us that for some reason, AS mails the stickers separately). The price for this unit is over $130M and we are trying to understand why it is so much higher than AS listed price of $126M. The unit does have a power awning.

I am no expert, but it sounds like the dealer may think he can get a premium for that unit, based on the scarcity and popularity of the new Classics. In the end, the price is whatever someone is willing to pay, not what the sticker say. If you order, the pricing may be more transparent.

Have you tried calling Patrick at Colonial Airstream? You will get straight answers on your questions and probably one of the best prices out there. Answers for some of your questions.

Inverter is standard because it is needed of the power reclining couches.
Doubt that solar is standard.
Have heard that the power awning is standard but can be removed. I think the awning is about $3K. Check that one with Patrick. Once he has some in stock you can quickly see the specs on the Colonial website.

Ntex and Gary - Thank you for the info. I called around to a few dealers and found a very knowledgeable Ron, Sales Mgr at Foley in MS. Had talked with him in the past and found him helpful. The only options on the '16 Classic are power awning, which we do not want, and solar, which we want to add different brand later (have read many forum posts on that); however, solar wiring is std. Also, after what we discovered is 4 yrs of looking, we bit the (silver) bullet today and bought one!

We have a 2015 loaded with every option. I love the power awning and will get the remote for it soon. Nothing better than coming home and being able to open the awning enough to get inside without being soaked or bringing in a lot of water. We have the solar package offered by Airstream and have not yet run out on electricity. It also comes with the bigger and better batteries. Only thing I hade to do was set the battery voltage to match on the controller. Very easy with a DVOM and a small screwdriver. We live in ours fulltime and find we have all the storage we need and the big frig is great. Once you learn how to use all the features on the microwave you will wonder how you lived so long without one. I did change the invertor to a 2000 watt because I needed it but the remote wire is cat4 and you will need a cat5 to run it remotely. Xanterra fits in the same place with the few options needed to wire into the trailer. I put the remote by the couch, better place than behind cooktop.

I purchased a 2015 Classic 30' in February from a dealer on the West Coast with a substantial discount. My understanding that the only difference is a 2% price increase for the 2016. We did get the auto awning and no solar. Very pleased with the unit although I would have liked to make some changes as would all long term users. Just can't have it all. You won't regret owning the Classic or any other AS in my opinion.

Classic 2016

I'm also about to purchase a 2016 Classic. A couple of things that I have learned:

1. List price (including manual awning and 1000 watt inverter but no solar) is $126,450

2. Cost of solar installed is about $3000

3. Cost of power awning is $3600

That gets you to about $133,000

I've decided to go without the power awning and to provide my own solar, including a 3000 watt inverter).

Right my dealer won't budge off the $126k base price, but we are working on what he will give me for my existing AS.

Good luck.

You live in Little Rock (Crain RV) but talked to Ron at Foley (Gulfport, MS)?
That in itself speaks volumes.

You cannot go wrong dealing with Ron. He's a great guy! Shoot me a private message if you would like to discuss.

Thanks again to the several of you who offered advice; lots of knowledge in the Forums. Finalized our purchase today with Ron Lester at Foley RV; ordered a 2016 Classic today; due out of production in October. Since our current auto fleet consists of a little convertible and a 2012 Suburban, we will be looking for a 3/4 ton diesel P/U. Don't worry, not asking about that in this thread. Have spent hours and hours on the various tow vehicle threads and came to the conclusion that there are no bad alternatives among the Big Three (or three and a half if you count GMC). Next step is to take DW out with me to drive and decide which she likes better. After 40 years I don't even kid myself about whose opinion is most important here.

We are excited!!

With those choices my vote would be for a GMC Sierra Denali/Chevy Silverado High Country 2500HD Duramax/Allison- whichever one you can get under $62,000-

That is pretty much where I am. Both DW and myself from TX ranching families (the poor kind, not the "Giant" kind). Therefore, somewhere near heresy to consider models other than Ford.

Well, I am jealous! Gonna be hard to wait for it to arrive? Amazing that it is going to take that long for it to come in. Did Foley treat you right on price? They seem to have lots of good comments here on the forum.

If you are bound and determined to get a Ford...
Too bad you can't get a 7.3...

Ntex - Yes, Ron at Foley treated us right on price. He is knowledgeable and willing to consult; we are happy to make the trek down there from Little Rock to pick it up in late October.

Received our order confirmation yesterday; due to begin in production Oct 15 with Oct 21 as completion date. Very excited. We could have gotten one in late August, but have so many travel plans, both fun and business, we really cannot enjoy it until late October anyway. Going to drive TV candidates this weekend. Hoping the choice will be apparent after driving.

I got a nice trade in allowance for my 2015 Cloud so did not really dicker over the sticker price for the 2016. About 131,000 with all the options excluding solar. I will upgrade the solar and inverter myself. The Classics are in demand. Still a little disappointed about not being able to get the recliners with the fold down table but I will deal with that at a later date.
