2016 Classic propane quick disconnect

Does anyone know if the quick disconnect on the 2016 Classic is high pressure or low? I plan on using a converted generator to propane when my solar can't keep up.

low pressure on all of the airstreams, the regulator is at the tanks.

Thank you for the response. I am hopeful the small 2000 watt generators will runoff the propane feed.

I bought a Champion dual fuel generator and love it. I have been using an external propane tank to run it but would love to use the low pressure port on Airstream instead. There is a female connect on both the Airstream and the generator though and I am having a hard time finding a propane hose with a male end on BOTH sides?

Any advice?

Hi,
After lots of research, I purchased the Yamaha EF2000ISV2 COMBO 2X2000 WATT INVERTER GENERATOR package to run parallel and be able to use the air conditioner (I live in Georgia!) I also purchased propane conversion kits and am just now researching what I need to get the right propane hose extension cord - I want a high quality hose of about 22' - this is so I can put the generators behind the trailer and away from the front bedroom. I purchased the conversion kits from Carb and Turbo and am literally waiting for their call back. I'm thinking they can make the right hose for me. I'll keep you posted, if you'd like.

Most any propane distributor can make up hoses with your needed fittings.

I have run two Honda 2000 watt generators off my low pressure port at the same time (for air conditioning). Important note: Doing that exceeds the posted limit of 25,000 BTUs of capacity on the LP port of the trailer, so I'm saying I have done it... not that it should be done. As a test I have also run every gas appliance except the furnace at the same time as I've run two generators. No problems at sea level with a full LP tank. Under other conditions? I can't say.

Note to pegmurphy... Even placed near the port (as I do), two 2000 watt generators draw more propane than the port is rated for. Hose length has a huge impact on pressure and flow rate f low pressure gasses, including propane. 20' of 3/8 low pressure lp hose can deliver less than half the BTUs per hour as a 5' length of the same tubing. Net: you may discover that keeping your generators close to the trailer is a better idea despite noise issues. Or, as I do, carry a 20 pound LP cylinder or two (see my gallery for pics of the platform I have that carries two generators and two 20 pound cylinders under the tonneau of my truck) so you can locate the generators and their LP source as far from the trailer as your power cord will allow. Don't forget to secure them somehow. Miraculously, these $1,000 accessories tend to sprout legs and walk away if left unsecured in a campground.

I have two GenConnex propane converted Honda 2000i. I have run them both off the quick connect port on my 2017 Serenity International. They run just fine. I do keep them fairly close to the trailer, but they are pretty quiet so the noise is not too bad. The only time I really run them is if I want to power the microwave or the A/C. The 160 watt solar package seems to be keeping my batteries topped off pretty well. If I am exceeding the 25,000 BTUs of capacity on the LP port of the trailer, can this cause damage to the trailer or the generators? I have plenty of room in my TV to carry 20lb bottles but prefer not to.

Thanks for the comments! Just got off phone with Carb and Turbo - they are thinking a 22' high pressure hose with splitter at the end with the regulators. They are going to check their design ideas and get back to me with a suggestion - I told them I would dedicate one of my to AS tanks to the generators. I have a FC 20 and a SUV - so no extra space for mounting or carrying extra tanks.

I'll share what they come back with as a recommended solution.

I have a local shop that does custom fittings and once I pick up the Classic and the generators I plan on getting the fittings made up. If/when I use two generators it will be for the AC like others have suggested.

The main problem with low BTU flow on the low pressure side of the trailer regulator is low LPG boil off volume when the temp drops. There is a lot of information on the websites plus USCarb to figure out your consumption and boil off needs. You have to allow for that by valving the two bottles together. I installed a Y connector on both bottles, one each, for the house, then the other two for a L port 3-way valve to the 1st stage genny low pressure regulator. This allows me to select either bottle or both if the temp drops. These fittings and the regulator are mounted in front of the stock regulator under the LPG bottle cover. Just buy a second regulator bracket like the original. Run your hose down the all-rod, under and out the tank cover (just like the umbilical cord on the curbside), and terminate with a shutoff and quick disconnect at the trailer coupler. Mine is tied off to the safety pin with wire ties. So far, no freeze ups or shutoffs with my 3,000 Yamaha. I did experience that with a 6,000 Hondo a few years ago before using the valve described above.

Is there room on the front of the Classic to install those generator racks I've seen on other AS? The tanks look like take a fair amount of space in that area. I'm not opposed to storing them in the bed of the truck just considering options.

I carry the 3000 Yamaha in the truck bed and roll it out part way for use, connecting it to the quick connect at the trailer coupler. I have heard of some people not lowering the truck tailgate and melting the plastic upper inside edge.

Boil off

Thanks to guskmg for underlying cause of 25,000 BTU limitation. The good news for many of us with two Honda 2000s is that we use them for AC only. Naturally, that means we only draw higher volumes in high temp weather.

The Heart of Texas WBCCI Unit had a dry camping rally in the "Grass Lands" National Preserve in North Central Texas several years ago. The temps went down into the low digits. They were surprised their 3000 watt gennys could not get enough LPG boil-off. The ultimate solution is some kind of heated blanket. Of course, requiring more genny capacity. Solar anyone?
