Note that the cabinets in the new Classic are a base wood like Alder with a Cherry stain. At least in the prior year Classics, the wood was Hickory and it was Hickory, not a stain. Another cheapening of the unit and a simple ding will show a light colored wood under the stain. Dents in the Hickory were not apparent.

If one takes their trailer back to Jackson Center with a bottomless money supply in their checking account, the factory service center can do anything to your trailer.

That's interesting! Alder and yellow poplar are two of the least expensive woods, and a lot of the SOB's have been using it for years in their cabinets....new owners can expect screws stripped out in the wood cabinets, and probably stapled drawers....
Hickory and oak, are very hard woods, (in addition to being hardwoods), and have very good screw holding characteristics. This should help preserve the value of the older units...
For whatever it's worth,

Are they alder or yellow poplar, I doubt it. But alder is a common cabinet wood.

Those tail lights look a lot like the plastic (junk) ones I just took off
my 26' '65 Overlander. Wonder what they cost? Guess I'm about
to find out the hard way.

You are correct, alder is a common cabinet wood, especially for low end cabinets stained and finished to look like expensive cabinets. Case in point cherry stained alderl

Poplar (some call yellow poplar, actually is tulip wood) is commonly used in the carcass, (frame of cabinets).

For whatever it's worth..

This is a definitely a different concept from the previous Classics and I'm sure there is a market, but not sure how big a market. However I would not be a part of that market.

It does appear to be have much higher quality appointments and some definite design improvements. I would have to see one in person to tell if the factory construction practices and quality control have been improved.

Personal preferences:
I know some think the rear panoramic windows are a plus. To me they are a waste, because the only times I'm in the bedroom is to sleep or change clothes. Both require the shades to be closed. I do not like the dark stain wood. I much prefer the current hickory. I guess I'm lost in the past, because I am pretty sure the new interior styling would be considered modern, and I much prefer traditional.

So if anyone wants to buy one, I promise not to be ahead of you in the long line of orders.

If for some reason, I need a new trailer, It will not be a classic.

I will buy something less fancy and have enough left over to buy a new tow vehicle and still be below the Classic's MSRP.

Ken

We like the bedroom panos a lot. We like the bedtime views and waking with them in the countryside, having the view throughout the trailer even when sitting in front, and the brightness they add.

I would hate losing my wardrobes though.
And my sofa arm storage....
And my flip up tables in the LR...

But there are some things I like. Many mods which I did are now standard. I love the reclining sofa.

Airstream are being forced to update their interiors for a new generation and IMO they did this one right. The old Classic wasn't compatible with my taste (at all) and I had zero interest in it, this new one looks incredible and makes me look toward this as a viable upgrade option in the future.....just wish my bank account was currently more compatible

There are many things I like about the new Classic as well. I love the recliner sofa, ducted air, Michelin tires etc. I'm not sure how I feel about the new cabinets. On the one hand, I love my hickory cabinets - I think they're so rich looking. On the other hand, the new cabinets definitely look more modern and sleek-looking and I like them.

As someone pointed out earlier, I agree - the bedroom is for sleeping and changing (for me), so I would miss my bedside cabinets.

And I really like my 30' floor plan as opposed to the 31' - just personal preference.

What I don't like is the price tag! Yikes. You definitely pay for the changes.

No 31??

We had made up our minds to purchase/order a 31' Classic, now I just read they are not building a 31? We were at Jackson Center in July and was told they were building 31's, but hadn't started building Classic's at that time. I do like the layout of the 30 with the exception of the loss of wardrobe storage. Also not sure of the cherry cabinets, I like the look, but love solid wood. I guess I should call Airstream and ask them if a 31 is in the future.
Also, would appreciate recommendations for ordering or purchasing a new Airstream. We are located in Central IL, with Bill Thomas in St Louis being the closest dealer. During our initial search for buying, we found them on the very higher price range, although a nice looking dealership. We wouldn't mind traveling to purchase, if the price and service were attractive.
Thanks

RBS, we are in Kansas City (no dealer here).

We have looked at Shorewood (has locations in Des Moines and Twin Cities), and also Ewalds in Milwaukee. Both had very knowledgable sales people and seemed to know what they were doing. We were not in the negotiation stage, so can't speak to how they really would be to strike up a deal with, but I did feel comfortable with their facilities and product knowledge.
