BAB, congratulations on your new unit. They are nice, but need a little fine tuning. Your question about the window shades, drill the slot a little deeper in the rubber knob so it will slip closer to the window. I only had one that was close and gave me issues, my parents on the other hand had the issue with almost all the shades. I also noticed a few other differences in the units, they came off the line a month apart. So the factory is making some changes. I like your upgrades, let me know about that rearview camera you installed, I'm looking for one.

Barry have you looked under/behind the front couch to see if there wouldn't be room there for batteries and the inverter?

From a quick look it appears as if I will put my batteries under the forward dinette seat (and lose the drawer), and will move the subwoofer from under the rear dinette seat and put the Magnum there. Wish there were more room around the main electrical panel, but the word "impossible" isn't part of my lexicon!

Thanks. Those are good looking was the thought.

I cracked up reading the recliner noise issue. Watched a trailer go by on the main road that day which had the walls coming off as it passed the park manager and I. The dog inside (now outside) looked pretty worried. Relative, huh?

Sure have enjoyed reading this thread. The new ones are very impressive.

We did not order any solar related equipment from Airstream.

When we rewired the trailer, all the 120Vac power outlets (all converted to Hubbel GFI hospital grade) will run off the battery system through the Magnum MS 2812 with the exception of those associated with the refrigerator and water heater. With 2,800 watts of AC power, the rear air conditioner will run for awhile.

The location of the batteries has occupied a lot of thought. Weight (obviously), but also proximity to the Magnum MSH (and it weighs 45 pounds, the batteries -- 4 of them -- weigh 66 pounds each). The wire used to connect the 4 6V AGM's is 4/0, and the same gauge to the converter/charger. Each wire is around 3/4" in diameter, and I need to keep the wire run as short as possible (thus the batteries under the seat in the fwd dinette and the Magnum under the other seat). I also have to install a batt temperature monitor from the batteries to the Magnum. Note, I haven't said ANYTHING about the 120V wiring which will have to go to the other side of the trailer where the main panel is located. The solar is pretty easy as I can route the cable from the 6 panels through all the electronics and then to the batteries (all street side). Oh, for those of you wondering about QC -- I noticed today when I installed the Maxim Skylights that there was an enormous improvement in the box that the Maxims fit over. They are now using a high end aluminum box rather than the flimsy jerry-rigged "panel aluminum" that they used on my '12 Intl CCD. Since I was on the roof all day, I was very impressed with the sealing process - it was very neatly done -- by someone who cared not only that stuff was sealed, but that it looked good as well. Not like the mess on my last trailer - which looked like the roof had been sealed by my 5 year old granddaughter! I'm liking what I'm seeing as I take my new trailer apart to "improve" it!

So, I was up on the roof finishing up wiring the 6 solar panels and my phone rang. It was Tim Maxwell, VP of Sales at A/S. He wanted to say thanks for purchasing the Classic, but more importantly, "how do you like it?" "Have you found anything that wasn't the way it should have been?" "Is there anything we can do to make the experience even better?" I mentioned the l-o-n-g wait, and he said that they are committed to not let any Classic leave the factory unless it is as close to perfect as they can get it. He also asked about my dealer experience, and the delivery process. I was very impressed with the time he spent with me on the phone -- and he was in Orlando -- not sitting at a desk at the factory. Nice, huh?

We ordered our trailer from RVOne in Tampa the week before the show there. Tim Maxwell was at the dealership when Bob was negotiating the deal with our sales person. Tim is the person who okayed the deal we were requesting. He took the time at the show to answer all of our questions. Very nice fellow who listens.

I agree! Tim Maxwell is a big asset to Airstream! I'm not sure how he can be all places for all people, but he sure is. I have appreciated all of Tim's help. I do hope Airstream realizes what they have with him!

For those of you with new Classics, here are some pictures of what the interior looks like when you get deeply into personalized upgrades. I have a panel of switches and monitors mounted in the closet. As of now, I don't know what all the switches (12V and 120V) will be used for, but I have color coded wires in place. I did assign the orange wire to three very quiet and low amp muffin fans that you'll see up in the fridge vent. Obviously, I took the refrigerator out because the space behind it provides a great space for my solar controller (the monitor is on the panel in the closet). Also, I have installed an ice maker in my freezer...this 9 cu ft model IS available with an ice maker, but not something we could special order. Simple installation, water will come from PEX going to the o/s shower. BTW, removing the fridge is not for the faint hearted, it is the tightest fit you can imagine, which you want, of course, due to the combustion going on behind it -- no leakage into the cabin. I am MORE and MORE impressed with the construction. Everything perfectly sealed and caulked. An important finding. The electrical panel, once unscrewed from its space, was cleverly done. There is about 3 feet of wire tucked behind it, so you can access every single wire you'd ever want to access. This is great news for those who want to do modifications. I finished up the evening by completing installation of a Progressive Industries electrical monitor/surge protector. Took about 2 hours....primarily because that 50 AMP wire is so incredibly hard to work with. It was necessary to unwire the 50 AMP service from the panel and put it into the PI module. Then I took the exact same type of wire (available at Lowes), and ran it from the output side of the module into the A/S main 50 AMP panel. After plugging it in I was gratified to find that my home 50 AMP panel was wired correctly!

Tomorrow I'll be hooking up the Sat TV. Next will be solar. Then the 4 Lifeline 6V's, and the Magnum MSH.

Vacation, anyone??
