Someone should start a thread listing things to do while waiting for the Airstream to be delivered...(not you Barry you have your tasks in order)

I'll start
1. Learn to coil up 25' of white water hose without dragging the end in the dirt.

Barry would you mind posting how you hook up the Magnum in your trailer? It was straight forward on my FC25 but that was a 30amp system. Not sure how to do it in the Classic with the two 50amp legs and the split nature of the AC breaker panel. Should be doable but scratching my head as I think about it for my on order unit.

hey guys, something for you to check when your new trailer arrives. PROPANE TANKS, check the date. Mine are 8 years old. Date on tanks is 2007. That means in 2017 I can no longer get them filled in Connecticut where I live unless I get them re-certified. It is complicated and costs $50 to $100 for re-certification. That's Connecticut, may not be an issue in other states.

The tank date thing is nationwide.

Cylinder Certification and Recertification
Cylinders are subject to recertification (also known as requalification) twelve years from their date of manufacture and every five years after that. For example, a cylinder manufactured in January of 2000 will have to be recertified in January of 2012 meaning if you take your bottle to the propane company in April of 2012 to be refilled, it will have to be requalified by authorized personnel before it can be filled. The recertification process is simple and does not take too long to complete. Think of cylinder recertification as an inspection similar to that of your car. A vehicle has to be inspected annually so that it may continue to operate safely on the road. Similarly, a propane cylinder must be inspected so that it may continue to operate safely in LP Gas service.

That said I would ask for newly dated tanks. Pretty surprising that the manufacture date is that old.

The Magnum MS-2800 has two 30 amp legs and two contactors both in and out. At the time we did ours, the new MSH series had a single input/output connection for AC power. There were two independent solo inputs - shore power or generator but they are mutually exclusive meaning only one is active at a time for input to the Magnum.

Thus there is no way to balance the load back to the pedestal. In effect, it becomes just a 50amp at 120 Vac deal and will only use one of the power wires in the trailer. While the Magnum may have a 60 amp contractor (which requires #4 wire), the trailer wiring is #6 rated 50 amps, just like the rating for the external AC power supply.

Airstream runs four #6 wires from the plug on the outside to receive shore power to the circuit breaker panel.

The power panel in the rear roof locker is a 240Vac panel meaning there are two separate buses just like in the house. They make the effort to put each air conditioner on a different leg as well as the water heater and refrigerator.

Thus we installed a new primary panel that had four circuits. The front air conditioner, refrigerator and water heater were fused here along with a 30 amp 240Vac breaker going to the Magnum under the sofa in the front of the trailer (using #4 wire). We effectively removed load so the Magnum can power the rear air conditioner, microwave and all lights when in the woods. The feed breaker in the new panel also limited the amount of power to the input of the Magnum per their instructions.

If wiring for the MSH series, one should seriously consider #4 copper wire to reduce voltage drop and not be at the limits of #6 wire all the time with a 50 amp load.

Switz, I think we're talking about different equipment. Gary and I have the Magnum Magna Sine Hybrid, MSH 3012M Inverter/Charger (around $2000 model). Will have to look back at my notes on this, but I had an email exchange with Lew about the 50AMP issue. He said that when he installs this model he doesn't run the circuit for the 2d AC into the Magnum, though he said there was adequate room to put both hot wires into the input of the MSH if I wanted to do that. The inverter does require a 60AMP sub-panel, which I have.

Barry (babbs) Don't know if I told you but for 365.00 direct from zip dee you can get a remote to work the awning. Would be nice to have if it is raining and you are coming home. Would not have to stand in the rain to open door.

I guess if you install a central vacuum system, a remote control for the awning becomes "de rigeur".....!

Installing a 60 amp main box in the trailer does not upgrade the #6 wire built into the trailer which is rated 50 amps. If you were to use a 60 amp main breaker, and found a source for that much 120Vac power other than at a home location, then all the #6 wire would need to be replaced with #4 per the National Electric Code and to keep insurance in place.

That was the issue for me as I originally liked the MSH series. The single 120Vac power pole both in and out was the deal killer.

Since the typical 120Vac only power outlet in RV parks is 30 amps while the 50 amp power outlet is typically 240Vac, the two pole model was selected. We will be replacing the factory water heater with the instant on RV 550. That will be one less 120Vac load to worry about and will allow a little clean up in the new main panel we installed by removing a 120Vac circuit breaker with two circuits for one with a single circuit which operates cooler and is less subject to false tripping.

The MSH series has a second 120Vac input labeled for generator while the primary is for shore power. From what I read in their manual, they are an either but not both at the same time connection. Regardless of that point, there is only one output pole.

Switzerland you are correct on dual vs single. Primary driver for Me is being able you use a smaller generator and mixing battery, solar and the gen to power the Air conditioning. MSH is fine for 30amp trailer, not so easy to integrate into a 50A.

My plan is to divvy up some of the essential circuits for MSH routing. For sure I will never run a second A/C without shore power. I love these kinds of challenges....which is why an Airstream is so much fun, right?

I am not sure if this will work with the magnum. To power the entire trailer off of single phase power, weather an invertor or smaller gen you can run the power through a 50 amp generator switchover relay with a jumper to the second leg.

I hope this helps.
