The one on the lot is--

Wait for it--

You're gonna love this--

27'3" bumper to ball...

I think the literature we have was provided at the same time as the short 26.

Why is the 28 shorter than the 27?

A couple of years back the tour guide a J.C. couldn't give me an answer.

28FB and 28RB.

At least Airstream model names are closer to the actual length than SOBs

The 27 came out first, and was advertised as a 27, even though it was 28'. The 28 came out after, and was called a 28 to differentiate between the two models, and help avoid confusion over why there were too many models with the same advertised length. This is the same reason Airstream offered 4 different models in the late 1980s-early 1990s, from 29'-32', and all of them were 32' long.

To standardize the chassis would be a wise cost cutting move. Thus they may have known there would be two trailers (27' and 28') just about the same length and named one 27' and one 28' intentionally. Same with the four types of 32s.

But you would know about the chassis, Terry. You have access to a tape measure and lots of trailers, though probably not all the 32s. Only 700 from 20,000 posts!
