What size is second AC unit in 2016 FC
Can anyone tell me what size the second AC unit is in a 2016 FC? I know the primary unit is a 15,000 BTU AC/heat pump but I don't know what the second is, the dealer info just says "2nd AC Install". Ultimately I am trying to determine if I can run one of them with a Yamaha EF2400iSHC. I know several Forum members have good luck with this generator with 13,500 BTU AC units.

13,500 BTU. That is what is listed in the 2016 Airstream brochure.

Our Zone 1 unit is 13,000 and Zone 2 is 15,000, but I remember at least one other forum member recently saying that theirs came from the factory with two15,000 units installed.
If you remove the air intake screen/filters in your ceiling, you can see the Dometic spec sticker on each AC unit to confirm what BTU you have.
Hope that helps

Thanks for the input. I pulled the intake off and found the sticker and in fact it is a 13,500 BTU dometic ac/heat pump, which is what I was hoping because I should be able to use the Yamaha EF2400iSHC generator to run the second unit by itself.

My Flying Cloud 30 (2015) has a 15k unit in front and a 13.5k in back. I use your Yamaha generator. I don't know why more Airstreams are familiar with this unit. It works great! Interestingly, I hooked up a cord with ammeter/watts gauge and the current draw was identical between the two AC units. I don't know what makes the rating difference, but in my case either one works the same with the Yamaha generator. Also, the draw is about 13 amps and 1550 watts on high fan. This means you can run the AC and the fridge on battery and not much else. Be careful of leaving the fridge on Auto because it will switch to AC when the generator starts and that will take the load beyond 2000 watts, which is the continuous rating of that Yamaha. I also can use a 20 amp extension cord with adapters (to the 50 amp plug on the side of the Airstream) and plug that into the household style plug on the Yamaha. This way I have a lighter and longer cord to use to reach the truck/generator wherever it is parked. The load on the generator is less than 20 amps so a 30 amp cord is not necessary. Have fun!

Yamaha EF2400iSHC
I am considering purchasing the Yamaha EF2400iSHC.
From what I read in this thread, I can use this gen (on gasoline, at lower altitudes) to run my 13,500btu AC on my 2016 Classic without any other mods.
I am assuming that my 13,500btu AC is my Zone 2 AC.
(The owners manual is not clear about this.)
Correct?

Found this on the Yamaha site...
NOTE: The EF2400iSHC will NOT run most Air Conditioner units and does NOT have a 30 amp electrical receptacle. Yamahagenerators.com does not recommend purchasing this model to run your Air Conditioner. Please contact Customer Service to help you find the correct size generator for your needs.
For what it’s worth....

I just looked at the Yamaha web site and this is wht it said (maybe they reevaluated the performance?)
Top Features of EF2400iSHC:
Yamaha generators have the longest emission engine durability ratings issued by the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board.
Gasoline petcock lets you shut off the gas to run the carb dry for storage and helps prevent stale gas problems.
Fuel gauge allows fuel level to be seen at-a-glance.
This model boasts High Current output which is designed specifically to increase motor starting capability and to improve air conditioner starting. This High Current model starts most high efficiency 13,500 btu AC in temperatures up to 110° F.
The EF2400iSHC has an aluminum die-cast frame, combined with an aluminum TCI rotor and other weight-saving measures to provide a powerful and compact generator weighing only 75 pounds.
The EF2400iSHC uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to produce high-quality electricity comparable to the power supplied by public utilities. Use this generator with confidence as a power source for microcomputer-controlled appliances and other devices with built-in computer functions.
Yamaha’s Smart Throttle feature automatically adjusts engine speed to match the load. The result is quiet running, maximum fuel efficiency, and a run time of 8.6 hours at 1/4-capacity load.
Yamaha’s Oil Watch Warning System helps prevent engine damage from low oil and provides added peace of mind.

Possible that Yamaha isn’t taking the soft start into consideration?
