Who is your dealer? I would be amazed if an Airstream dealer did not know what this valve is for. If you purchased from a dealer that has all sorts of trailers, I wouldn't be surprised.

Take it to Spokane Airstream and have them look at it. If the Spokane dealer told you this I would be beyond amazed. Please post and let us know who told you that.

I'm going to try and change it out with a smaller valve that allows more ground clearance. Your right about it being tight in there. Not sure I can swap it without cutting a hole to hold onto the hose.

Did you figure out what that valve drains? If it's a repetitive winterizing thing ..... maybe an access port is good. Depending on what it drains, access inside and space ...... Try an interior ( better for cold outside anyway) vertical orientation of the valve for the vertical low point drain. Much improved clearance and no cold knees.

Does everyone agree that the brass valve is a propane-style fitting to accept flared tubing on the left end? Why was this fitting used at all, especially without having it described in the owners manual? Seems like a real afterthought IMO, brought on by a problem in some models with water getting trapped at a low point between the fresh water tank and the pump. Did they just happen to have a bunch of spare propane valves on hand the day it was added to the production of this coach? What other models have it, and has Airstream notified those owners?

Not exactly a reassuring situation re: quality control IMO.

In scale, the threaded portion of the valve at the left looks like 1/4" NPT. Don't see a flare end.

The left end looks bulbous to me like a flare fitting. I have taken a zoomed in screen shot of just the valve, but I am still not able to attach photos as discussed in the thread linked below.

111, could you please give us an opinion on whether the left end of the brass valve in your photo is convex to receive a flared LP gas line, or not. Thank you.

I broke the brass valve while my trailer was sitting in my shop trying to figure out what is was for. Had a hose hooked up to the water supply and turned the valve. Water came out and the valve broke off. The 90 fittings have a thin wall and are easy to break. It is a pita to fix, had to cut an access hole to gain access to the pex tubing. If it breaks, the brass fittings will just spin in the pex. I put a smaller valve, like that found on a car radiator, to reduce the chances of being hit, eliminating the 90 fittings. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike for solving the mystery here. I believed you but thought it best that 111 confirm the diagnosis for HIS coach's valve.

Could you guys please comment on the left end of the valve being convex/bulbous to receive flared copper tubing, or is it NPT as wander-west suggests?

No flare on the brass, Its a low point drain for the lines but its in a exposed area. Just asking to be knocked off or turned on so all my water gets pumped out.

Great for winterizing though..

I have the same setup on my 23D. Mike S. has it right. It's a drain on the plumbing side (after the water pump). If I remember right, take out the converter/ fuse box and you can see the tube go straight down through the floor.

I am going to put on a winterizing kit this year and have everything apart......again. Can get a picture if someone needs.

Probably low point drain for water lines.
We have. 25' Flying Cloud. Had to replace one of our low point valves. Airstream sent us a brass value just like this one.
