Not to be argumentative, but Wikipedia says the 454 in 1970 made 390 HP and more to 450 HP for the Corvette. And, the internet doesn't lie.

Truck and Trailer

Lol, in 1970 I think they used gross horsepower, but even if not, the pre smogger Mark IV motors were A LOT stronger than the post smoggers.

There was a drop in 70, a bigger drop in 73, and a huge hit was taken in 78.

In 78 the large port heads went away, and the "peanut port" heads prevailed throughout Mark IV production all the way through till the Mark V was discontinued.

These heads were pathetic.

Well the biggest difference between the old 454 and today's fuel injected 5.3 is fuel efficiency. Overall similar or better power today. I'm guessing towing is 11 or 12 mpg today vs maybe 8 then. Not towing a much bigger difference. Driving at altitude also much better with the newer engine. Today's newest engines do a remarkable job extracting more and more power from fewer cubic inches.

C'mon MHony, you know the reason for all this incessant bickering is that there is so little at stake.

BTW, I think diesels are better than gas, Honda generators are better than Yamaha, Equalizer's are better than Hensleys, Coke beats Pepsi and don't get me started about whether synthetic is better than dyno oil. (slinks away now that the mines are set....)

I've watched some videos of Tundra 5.7, Ford Ecoboost, and Chevy 5.3. The Ecoboost honestly performed better, but I wonder about long term reliability of the twin turbos. Holler at me in 200,000 miles, 300,000 miles, or 400,000 miles. Are the turbos in diesels reliable for the long haul? Or is there an expensive rebuild at 200,000-300,000 miles?

The truck is 55,500lbs and 43500 on the trailer,I did look at the above utube of the 1500 hemi 5.7 ? I would have a hard time running a loaded engine up a 7 o/o grade, driving like that would really shorten the life of everything, I still like the 1500 rpm cummins......

Here is a picture of another Corvette towing 23 Airstream. It was too much for the springs, pushing each end down by3/4 ".

The placard states that the total weight of cargo and passengers is 388# IIRC.

It did tow very nicely, however.
