My wife and I had been searching for a used trailer for a few months, got real frustrated dealing with some of the sellers and the whole process. So we switched gears and decided to buy a new one. Put a deposit on it yesterday, take delivery in a couple of weeks. First time AS purchase for us, although my dad had one as did my grandparents. So we are somewhat familiar with them.

Is there a thread somewhere that has a list of "must have" items for newbies?

Probably "must haves" isn't the correct term.

More like a list of items that I need to have that are necessary items. Wheel chocks, jack, etc. just trying to make sure I don't miss something is all.

Perhaps Google search it, and that might be easier, tho everyone's needs are a bit different.

I suggest you do some short trips close to home, and keep paper and pen handy...this is probably the best way to know what you want and need to have with you.

Go thru everything, write down what you need to have to take care of it.

What model, size and options Airstream? And what do you have for a tow vehicle? Do you have a weight distribution/sway control system in mind? And what do you have in mind for passengers and normal travel/camping plans?

These are the essentials to help choose the basics.

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

As to what you will need for your new Flying Cloud, make sure that your tow vehicle has the capability to handle the towing and is equipped properly. You will definitely need a quality trailer brake controller installed if your tow vehicle does not have a factory built in unit.

You will also need to research weight distribution/sway control hitch systems. This will also be a necessity for towing a 25 foot Airstream.

The other necessary equipment will include various hoses, electric adapters, coax lines, and tools.

You will find all of the information that you will need here on AirForums. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Congratulations on your new baby. May you have safe travels and many great Airstream adventures with her.

Congratulations! Despite your familiarity with Airstreams, when you pick up your new baby, be sure to do a detailed walkthrough and consider camping at least one night nearby. Based on our own experience, there's a reasonable chance you'll find at least one thing wrong with your new trailer that you'll want fixed under warranty - perhaps even before you agree to take it home. Nevertheless, it will be a wonderful ownership experience. We love ours despite her initial flaws.

I have towed a trailer in the past. Had a Coachmen 25 footer when my kids were young. It's been while, so I have been reading on here quite a bit lately to catch up with what is new.

TV 2015 Silverado Crew Cab, has factory brake controller, 5.3L 3.42 diff. supposed to be able to pull 9200lbs max I think. Getting a Blue Ox hitch included in the deal. Door sticker says 1738 lbs occupants and cargo. I know that from that number you subtract the tongue weight of the trailer, and the weight of wife and I.

Most times it will just be my wife and I traveling, with occasional trips with the grandkids.

We are in the market for the same one model but waiting for a 2017. Here is the list we've gathered in preparation. Like others are saying, not all must-haves, but a comprehensive list of stuff we've seen others using that seems to be the right fit.

Congrats. would look for a TPS system for tires. Take a look at Anderson Leveling/ blocks.

Whatever we decide to bring, we make / update a few quick lists whenever we go out camping:

(1) Stuff we wish we had with us now.
(2) Stuff to leave home next time (e.g. brought but didn't use, and don't really need).
(3) Stuff we brought that was actually useful and should be brought again (goes on the packing list).
(4) Anything that's busted and needs to be fixed before the next time we go out. (Hopefully a short list!)
(5) Anything we want to improve / upgrade for next time (expensive list, but good to have).

Watch your head, when going to bed, and back out. The wife's side, was easy, my side was a nightmare. (It's got an 'East-West bed).
Kinda short on storage space too.
After several trips, I gave it back to CanAm and got a 30' FC. with a North-South bed.
It's great. comfortable, easy to get in/out of, and more storage space than I can use. the 30'er is a real winner.

AGREE! Keep a 'checklist' of things to take; another for hitting the road, and a third one for recording snags, anomolies, and things that need attention when you get home.
And ALWAYS do a 'walk around' before MOVING the trailer.

The east-west bed...I'll either get bumps on my noggin or get used to it.

I guess we'll find out about the storage.....

Before we bought the new one, tried to get a used FC27 with the north-south bed...was sold when I called.

Welcome aboard!! You will love your airstream. Join a club !! Everyone is helpful. I'm not sure the 3.42 rear end in your truck is rated that high for towing. I think it its more like 7200 but either way I'm sure you will be fine. I think the 3.92 or around that number rear end brings the higher tow capacity.
