I did a hard wire install inside of the trailer. I'm lazy and did not want yet another thing to hook up when parking the trailer.

Davz2k,
I'm guessing that your interested in knowing more about a hard wired surge protector. I hard wired mine in my rear trunk at the back side of the 50 amp plug. It's not an easy job. Each wire must be cut at exactly the right length, bent to exactly the right angle, with exactly the right amount of jacket striped away and you won't bend the wires with your fingers or even a cheap pair of pliers. It's tough heavy gauge wire. To make it worse, positioning yourself head first into the rear trunk area for an extended amount of time requires some muscle or ingenuity. But the effort is worth it in my opinion. I have no idea whether my protector has ever stopped a surge, but it has often completely cut off my electric when a 30 amp service is being drained by other camper's air conditioners. If the available electric drops below 104 volts my appliances are protected by the cut off.
Here's where I researched before buying. Buy what you need. There are both 50 and 30 amp protectors. Some only protect against surges some protect against both surges and drops. EMS-HW50C
I got my protector on Amazon at a good price.

Davz2k,
I don't know why the site changed itself when I sent this message, so here it is again.

I ordered a Progressive Industries PT50C for our 2016 FC.
Progressive Industries RV Surge and Electrical Protection industry lea
As an EE, I've seen enough of fried electronics from surges that shelling out $329 is worth it for the peace of mind.

Airstream should consider making the internal surge protector part of their standard equipment. We meet people frequently who have suffered appliance loss due to RV parks voltage issues. Essential equipment IMHO.

A surge protector is a good thing to have with any RV.

I agree you should always have a surge protector. I recommend Progressive Industries as they are made in the USA (actually in North Carolina not too far from me) and have a lifetime warranty.
