This is what I have for my new Serenity: Progressive Industries PT50C 50 Amp Portable Electrical Management System. It plugs into the power for shoreline and one plugs the RV cord into it.

This tells me the voltage on both legs, checks for proper wiring, cuts off power if too low, I think about 103v, and sows the Hz of the source. This is made in 30 Amp as well.

On my Moho, I was plugged into an RV park which had low voltage and killed the transformer in my converter/inverter/charger, costing over $800 just get repaired. Could have cost close to $3,000 at a dealer I am told. This Progressive Industries PT50C 50 Amp Portable Electrical Management System may have prevented this.

It is available on Amazon and other places as well.

Question:
If I am at a campground and only have access to a 30 amp receptacle will the 50 amp surge protector still work? Or will I have to also buy a 30 amp?
In my pea brain I think it might work, because the 50 amp to 30 amp adapter is just using 1 leg of the 50 amp service, but that may also be the very reason it doesn't work-

M. Honey, you shouldn't have a problem. I called Surge Guard who advised me I could use the 50amp surge protector for my 30amp AS. I used it without a problem.

I'm talking about the other way around-
Plugging a 50 amp trailer into a 30 amp receptacle when there is no 50 amp service available-
It still might work, though-
I guess we'll find out next year when we go to Salmon Lake Park.

Surge Protector Needed on 2015 Flying Cloud?

mh: According to the Surge Guard manual, you'll be fine regarding surge protection using the 50 amp protector when plugged into either 30 amp or 50 amp power.

Here is an idea to protect your surge protector from walking off. It's a simple coated wire with a loop crimped on the plug end and another loop for a lock on the other. I just lock it on the power cable and leave it. It's not fool proof but it's better than the manufacturers cheap bulky plastic box they sell for $25.00. This cost about $5.00.

That looks familiar.....
Alana_Surge_Protec_12.14.14-2 by Fantinesvoice.com, on Flickr

I wrap one or both cables around the power pole in such a way that it cannot be removed.
This is actually in my garage.

Great minds think alike. Remember though, if someone wants it bad enough, it's gone. Thankfully camping folks are not like that.

I think for me the idea behind a lock is to make it very difficult and time consuming for a thief to steal it, hopefully encouraging them to look elsewhere....

I did a hard wire install inside of the trailer. I'm lazy and did not want yet another thing to hook up when parking the trailer.
