Setting up my Flying Cloud Kitchen - help with products

Hi: I'm new here and excited to get to know about your travels in an AirStream - we just purchased a FlyingCloud 23' trailer which has a circular sink. I'm looking for a dish drain that will fit inside the sink - anyone have a suggestion? Any other tips/hints will be appreciated. Thanks, Kathy

I have not seen a round dish drainer, but find that the microfiber dish mats you can get at places like Bed, Bath and Beyond, and Costco work very well. Just wash in the sink, and put the dishes on the microfiber mat. It absorbs the water nicely and then you can quickly dry them and put them away. The mat seems to self dry very nicely, even left on the counter. That assumes you have a counter, some AS kitchens forgot them.

We have a 25' with the big circular sink. Here's what we do:

Wash in a dishpan or bowl that sits in the sink (that uses less water than filling the big sink). Then we rinse in a dishpan that sits on the counter. We lay the items out to dry on top of an absorbent towel, on top of the folded-down stovetop cover.

I saw something on Pinterest that used an auto oil change pan that fit in the round sink. You may try looking for that.

Round cake cooling rack? We also use a smaller tub for washing dishes.

We are outfitting our new FC as well and I ended up with the microfiber mat. I bought one at Bed Bath and Beyond and the bamboo drying rack my friend has but both were too big. I discovered when I went back to the store that my BBB only had one size, which was sad because it was really cute! Target had them in smaller sizes and the proper size one worked great on our shake down cruise. I decided it was best to get them washed, dried and put away anyway!

We use a round, plastic bowl for dishwashing in our round sink.

You can get them in pretty colors at WalMart.

A microfiber mat on the counter works well for air drying.

Congratulations on your new Airstream Flying Cloud! We are nearly for our first shake down this weekend. Although I have not yet purchased a disk rack thus far, i have reviewed many online & during multiple kitchen shopping excursions. Was actually considering this model

.....however we have two 18" stainless sinks which are not round type. I'm trying hard to minimize & follow forum members recommendations to only add "stuff" that has multiply uses. Also, lived in our current home 24 yrs. w/o a dish rack having double sinks plus dishwasher. Since we are both a bit "neat & organized" types...will probably find like Silverlabs...we'll wash, dry & store.

We, too, have the round sink. First year of ownership & setting up the kitchen, I looked for items that served more than one function. I thought this collapsible, hang over the sink colander would be perfect. It also fit in the shallow drawers….very little does. Didn't work so great as a dish drying device, as first it sat on the counter…dripping water. Then it went over the sink.
2nd year I tried a small tray that works fine for a few items. But holds water & needs to be tipped to drain.
Next a small drain board that sat on top of the tray. Both fit in the bottom of the sink after the dishes were washed. This turned out to be just a lot of moving dishes around. And, the sink is out of use while the dishes are drying.
Year 4 the micro-fiber mat is introduced. This is a clear winner. We also find it more efficient just to dry the dishes & put them right away.

Oh, I love seeing these options! We have a dishwasher in ours, but I still need to occasionally dry big pots and pans. I think I will get one of these. I loooooove the round sink.

We've got a Camco dish rack, and use the microfiber mat. I'm hoping the design and the drain plug on the circular rack are what they appear to be.

We also have a Kohler circular drain rack in the sink proper to keep heavy things away from the stainless steel. Unfortunately it's no longer available.

Keep us posted...love to cook but clean up required & great designed products potentially allow for more time doing the things we would rather be doing.

Just received the Garden Dish Rack. While it's a little pricey, it's built like a battleship; VERY heavy plastic.

Now, only time will tell if its functionality matches its appearance.

Let us know how it works out. Can you set it close enough to the sink for the drain to work? Where do you store it when not in use?

Here's ours:

The gray handles on each side pull out to the length necessary to fit the round sink. The rack is also completely collapsible collapsible and fits below the sink very nicely. We usually wash dishes and rinse, then put into the rack while sitting on a microfiber mat, then move it into the sink when dishwashing is done.

The extending handles make a nice rack for skillets or other larger items too!

It's solidly made... I believe it's from Camping World, but couldn't find make or model on it anywhere!

Hi: This is exactly what I decided to get and we just returned from our 11 day shakedown trip. (new to airstreaming : - )). The dish rack works great for us. I put one of those dish mats on top of the closed stove top and the dish rack on that when doing the dishes. And if we are staying a while, I just leave it there. When we move, I pop it down (mine collapses - I think that is what Hibby is showing.) To store it, I just collapse it, and put it in one of the pull out cabinets - after all, I'm going to be getting it out next time we stop anyway. It doesn't really fit vertically in any of the cabinets, which was disappointing. I also have a rubber floor mat on the couch behind the galley that I can put the mat and the dish drainer on while I'm making dinner. Air stream really did not give us much counter space! That's a bit disappointing.
