Satellite recommendations.

Can anyone recommend a good portable satellite antenna? I'm looking for something that is fairly quick and easy to setup. I have DISH at home and will be using the same provider when traveling.

Thank you in advance?

There's an ad up in the classifieds for a used Winegard Portable Satellite dish. I haven't cross-referenced the price with Camping World, but at the very list it would be worth checking out.

The easiest and cheapest is the Dish Tailgater. $349@Camping World.

Yes I do and it requires a V211K or V211Z receiver. You can buy the receiver and go month to month with Dish. However, if you have Dish at home already you can add the receiver (or swap out) with Dish and it will be part of your regular home service. I just unhook the receiver and put it in the trailer and reconnect to the Dish Tailgater. Takes about 10-15 minutes to locate your position but it is all automatic and involves NO dish pointing or calibrating. I wired in a separate satellite cable connection so i wouldn't have to mess with the standard cabling already in the trailer. I can then switch between over the air, RV park cable or satellite without changing connections or jumpers.

Thank you so much Mojo. I have read conflicting reviews about the Tailgater but that's the one I have been leaning toward. How long have you have you had it?

Going on two years now and it has worked all over the Western US as long as there is a clear shot through the trees to the southern sky. I think the next step up on auto dishes is around $700.

Mojo my final section before I order tonight. I believe Dish uses three satellites. Does the Tailgaiter automatically pickup all three. When you select a program does it matter what satellite the program is on?

Mojo, thank you for the advice. My Taillgater arrived today from Camping World. I hooked it up and within 5 minutes I had programs.

BTW, if you are using the V211k or z receiver, you can add a hard drive to it to make it into a DVR to record programs to. That way, if you record movies at home, you can watch them while on the road via the hard drive if there is nothing else on the sat worth watching. See dish.com for more info.

We use a Wineguard Carryout G2. Comes set for DT but is very easy to change to set for Dish.
