Safety Recall Notice for LP Tank Trays

Just got a safety recall on my 2015 30" Bunk regarding the 1/4 x 14 self tapping screws that attach the LP tray to the frame. They need to be upgraded to 4-5/16 x 18 thread-cutting bolts. When I put the ProPride on I had to raise the tray to clear the new mechanics and thought the bolts looked a bit small.

Well lucky me as the trailer is still at the shop for warranty repairs. I'll call in a bit to get this done as well.

This subject needs to be pinned. It would keep down the multiple threads about it.

Good idea. I did a search and it did not come up.

Sorry.

Yup! Got my recall notice in yesterdays mail. Called my dealer this morning and he has to order the parts per trailer recall notification..............rather than being proactive and shipping the dealer 50 to 100 5/16" screws. AS will go broke in shipping at that rate.

Note to all

It has been addressed here a couple of time before, but I will hit it again for the benefit of new comers.

As has been said, the search function within the Airforums Website leaves a lot to be desired.

What I have always done when looking for older threads on certain issues is I do a Google Search, starting it with the word 'airforums'.

For instance, I just Googled, 'airforums bolt recall' and came up with this thread and a couple of other threads on this matter.

Used the following search command, site:airforums.com, in your search string and Google will confine the search to the forum only for the terms elsewhere in your string. It makes it very easy to drill down to whatever you want without results from any other web site.

Ill fix it my self no big deal. Engineers, always trying to get by with the lightest smallest that they test and say will work. Me, not an engineer, but had plenty working for me through the years and when they told me something I had our plant people double the spec. Never had a failure.

I contacted Colonial Airstream and they immediately gave me the following information regarding my 2014 Airstream Flying Cloud 27 ft. - "We are aware of this recall, and fortunately, your trailer is not part of it. The range of affected production numbers is 529068 to 533019, with yours being built prior to the issue (528612)." So... check your numbers - it's the last 6 digits of your VIN

New Lucy is 531020, so I guess she's included in the recall. I have not received any letter from Airstream yet.

Just spoke to the dealer. My warranty repairs are completed and they want me to pick the trailer up, but wait the repair bolts are not in and I will need to bring it back in at a later date. The bolts have to be ordered from Airstream per trailer vin #. Are you kidding me!!

To top it off the furnace vibration that was initially quite noticeable by the service writer apparently disappeared while it was sitting on their lot.

I am going to go over there now to check it out prior to picking it up tomorrow.

I just hate this stuff!!

I got the recall letter for Lucy today. It arrived via Standard Mail which is the old bulk rate/junk mail classification. I usually throw this kind of mail in the trash without opening it. I only opened this one because it was from Airstream. We must be considered really important to receive this notice via junk mail. It's lucky that we haven't moved recently because Standard Mail is not forwarded or returned to sender.

I suspect that the dealer who told you that these bolts have to be special ordered from Airstream by VIN is either full of crap or thinks that his customers are pretty stupid. If that were my dealer, I would tell him to have the new bolts installed when I picked up the trailer or he would never have any of my business again. These guys are unbelievable. You can buy these bolts at Home Depot. They're not doing brain surgery here.
