Flying Cloud FB vs RB Question

Hello All,

I'm having trouble making a decision between them. I like both units and I'm leaning toward the RB as I like the microwave over the refrigerator in the model we looked at.

We've had 2 sales folks say the the FB is a more popular model as people like the dinette in the back for the view when backed in to certain spots.

Can anyone share their opinions of life with one or the other? Pros and cons of FB vs RB?

Thanks

I think you need to do a search; this has been threaded a gazillion times on the forum. There is no right answer.

RB because the bed is towards the back and less street noise sometimes and I like waking to a little privacy. Plus the view is out the front sometimes.

For us it came down to we like the microwave over the fridge.

If the view is great step outside with a chair or two and enjoy. We have camped in great view sites but at least fifty percent of sites are nothing special as viewed from front or back. Living ease and/or function in the Airstream is what is important to us. Plus we like the entrance door near the tow. Rear bedroom for us for the six rvs owned with one exception and that solidified to go for the rear for bedrooms. And as mentioned additional privacy for the sleeping area in many situations.

We have had two 25FB's since 2005. When we bought the first one, there was no such thing as an RB, so the choice was easy. The second time around in 2015, we seriously considered the RB. After very careful consideration, we decided to go with the FB again for several reasons.

The FB has a much better chance of a view while camped. In the RB, the dinette view always includes the LP tanks and, if you have stayed hooked up, the view of the back of your tow vehicle. As to your comment about the over fridge microwave, we had a 23FB for a short time and found the high up microwave to be a little difficult to use. I always felt that I was in a precarious position when removing hot food from the microwave. I managed to spill hot liquid on myself on two occasions while removing items. I got the point that I was using a small step stool to get things out of the microwave. I'm 5'10", so I'm not super short.

We also like the FB's bathroom arrangement better. We had come to like the full length mirror with the cabinet behind it.

This is just our opinion. Best luck with your final decision. Whichever one you choose, you will enjoy Airstreaming.

Brian

I prefer the FB for the view. People who talk about noise really confuse me. If you pull into a site where there is noise at one end, there will be noise at the other.

The real issue here is the microwave. The 25FB, the last I checked, does not have a microwave unless you give up your conventional range and go with the microwave oven. If you want a standard microwave you should get the RB. But......as Homer Simpson would say, and it is a big one.......you will have a fridge that vents out the side. This causes trouble with efficiency and fans have to be added or dealt with. Google search refrigerator fans and you can quickly find lots of information here. My fridge vents through the ceiling. I have never had a problem with cooling and have been in the real heat, sun, rain, wind and elevations at both ends of the spectrum.

I would like a microwave but we camp in our trailer. If I were a full timer my outlook might change. But I am not, so I prefer the FB layout.

We’ve never camped where there was a street at the front of our trailer 😉. But if we ever do, we’ll heed your warning.

We went with FB, and are happy with it. My wife says it has more storage, and I like having the dinette in the rear . . .

We have had both and love the FB layout so that the view from the dinette is usually a good view.

You don't specify what length you are considering, but in the 25' the the FB model has two large side windows in the dining area; the RB only has one.

Hi

There is a lot more to this than the view. I would put the layout "working" for you *much* higher up on the list. Even the location of the door (front or back) would be higher on my list than the view. What you see in this or that direction is *very* site (and seating) dependent. The view from outdoors will *always* be nicer.

RB in a 25 foot Serenity

We wrestled with this when we ordered ours. In the end, it got down to the door is closer to the tow rig, it has a microwave above the fridge (we use this quite a bit), and more often than not the view is just as good out the back. We like to sit in bed in the morning and have our coffee and enjoy the view.

I have the 25 FB and we love it. Most campsites are back in so out dining table faces the lake instead of the bed facing the lake or any other beautiful site. We started out shopping for a queen but we bought the twins. I would not ever consider getting the queen now. The storage under the twins is much better than the storage under the queen.

Drawbacks: The 25FB you can only get with a microwave/Convection oven or either a gas oven only. If you are boon docking you don't have an oven if you have the microwave/convection combo. You can not have both like the 25 RB. Also I think the tongue weight is greater on the 25 FB. The shower is a little smaller in the 25 FB.

We also wanted to have it all...a nice view from the dinette, a microwave, and a larger conventional oven. We bought the front bedroom and installed our own microwave. You can install one in a pullout over the hall closet or remove a cushion from the long bench under the TV and build a cabinet there.

The later gives you more counter space and room for a full size microwave.

More detail on both of these in this thread.

The answer is follow your own star...We’ve had as many good views out
the front as the back while traveling. If you use pull through sites, you may wind up with your dining table out on the road with the FB. 2019 FB Twin.

We picked a 28 RBQ. Check out the exterior storage access.

We love our RB FC 25’. The larger bathroom provides more room for dressing, etc. We like the feeling of privacy with our bedroom (often) tucked into woods, etc., and I’m entertained by that view when I wake up and sip my coffee!
The convection/microwave over the fridge is not ideal, but a little step stool helps a lot! (People who have the microwave lower complain about that location too!) I like having the gas oven for when I need to cook without electricity!
The door near the tow vehicle is handy.
With the panoramic windows the views are visible wherever you are, and we are outside a lot anyhow.
I agree with the folks who say that how to choose is different for everyone, and it’s all good!
Simply camping is our motto!

I'm glad you asked this question. I know that there are a lot of order threads about this. Although we are still looking, we have narrowed it down to a RB. My wife has different reasons than mine, but mine is that the door is closer to the TV.
